On the good side, the motor and beater are powerful. The unit is nice in its compact size, but that means the dirt cup is really small. IMO the dirt cup should be twice the size it is.
Biggest complaint is the the hose attachment: cheap plastic and does not connect tightly to the base. The first hose broke almost imediately, but we got a free replacement. However it has very little suction in the hose.
Lastly, the first belt broke after just a few months, and it's really a pain to change. This must be a known flaw as a special plastic "finger" tool came in the box.
For this price I cannot recommend this unit.

We really looked forward to using this pet specific hand vacuum. It really sounded good.
We used the vacuum for a couple minutes on the rug and different locations we intended to pick up the hair. It worked just fine. A gob of hair and some dirt in the filter compartment.
We then connected the hose assembly. A little cumbersome but not bad. Checked the suction and there was very little. I checked the troubleshooting guide and it said that it was probably the filter needed cleaning. It looked a little dirty, but after only 3 minutes of use, I wouldn't expect it to be clogged. I cleaned it out by opening the trap door, but I had to remove the housing to get the hair out. I banged as much dirt and hair off the filter as I could and put it back together. I checked the suction and it was better but still not enough to pick up anything. I then removed the filter to check the suction of the vacuum itself and it was a little better but not anything to recommend.
My conclusion is that the filter fills up way to fast to be practical and it would be way to cumbersome to have to take apart the filter compartment after just a couple minutes of use. The hose attachment with the pet hair brush and the crevice tool looked as if it was going to be of great use, but it won't work. This is a deal breaker.
We have returned the vacuum. To bad!!!

I bought this for my mom and she has used it everywhere and it works great. It even picks up the dog hair and dirt from her car. Great buy.

Does anyone know how is this vacuum different from Dirt Devil's own "classic" model? I am looking at the specs and pictures and they look exactly the same except for the color & name. Same motor, brushes, bagless, filter, etc. The only difference I can see is this one for "pet owners" costs more ?! I was a bit skeptical when I first saw this little machine at a store, but after coming home and reading nothing but glowing reviews, I had to order one for myself. Honestly, my red sofa sprinkled with white French Bulldog hair was no match for the Dirt Devil Purpose For Pets hand vac. I had to work super hard with my regular vacuum & its attachments to remove my dogs hair, but with this little machine it was a quick, easy clean up. I can't recommend it enough. Do yourself a favor and pick one up!
