"Excellent in every way except operation time" 2010-03-03
By D. Clark
As other reviewers have said, this vacuum is lightweight, sturdy, easy to maintain, and has great suction power. Unfortunately it also has a short operation time of up to 10 minutes, with a 3 hour battery charge time. If you can deal with that, and the cost, this vacuum is highly recommended.

What boggles my mind is that Dyson didn't design the vacuum to work with a power cord. Either allow the vacuum to be operated while the battery charger is plugged into the battery and the battery is plugged into the vacuum (a "pass through" mode that would send the DC power directly to the vacuum instead of the battery), or provide a separate AC-to-DC adapter with a (longer) cord, that would plug into the existing battery port. This is a no-brainer. If you Google reviews on this vacuum, you see over and over again that the main (if not only) complaint is the short operation time. Dyson could make a new AC-to-DC adapter NOW that would plug into the existing battery port. My only guess as to why they don't do this is that they want people to buy one of their larger vacuums for corded operation.

I'd give this item five stars if it wasn't for this obvious oversight. Three hours of charge time for ten minutes of operation is difficult to deal with.

 "Great Suction" 2010-02-26
By Summer Hennessy (Gilroy, CA)
Nice little vacuum, i don't know anything about the competition but this works great. I keep it in the kitchen for common little spills and coffee grinds. I also use it to pick up dog hair inbetween vaccuming with the big dyson.

**My only complaint is that the air shoots out the side as it circulates through so sometimes it blows the stuff your are trying to suck up farther away before you can get to it.

"Worst consumer electronic purchase of my life." 2010-02-20
By J. Edgar
I was prompted to write this because of the regular taunting of Dyson's advertisements espousing the engineering excellence of their products. THe design of the vacuum may be superior to a 'dust buster' or similar old-school hand vacuum, but the rest of the product us utter garbage. The battery life is abysmal. It literally fails before I roughly spot vac my laundry room (8'x10'). I then have to "jog" it by pulsing the trigger to get another minute of vacuum use from it. I returned it once and the performance was identical for the 2nd unit. It has more vacuum pressure than a "dust buster' but is exponentially more expensive and fails to perform the basic task that my first hand held vac performed twenty years ago. This product is, from the standpoint of an average 30-something technophile, the worst product of all time. Dyson's normal vacuums must be awesome or this product would never have made it to market. If you want a somewhat pretty hand-held vac that sucks hard for a minute and then dies.. this is the ticket. Even when the battery dies it continues to 'suck' for the duration your ownership.

 "Burned By Previous Model" 2010-02-16
By End User Consumer
The previous model had an operating time of 6 minutes and it shut it self off completely, with no warning. Now 2 years old, my unit no longer holds a charge for more than 2 minutes. A replacement battery is fully $75. And to think I spent about $200 to buy this in the first place. For that kind of performance, Dyson is a not the kind of product I will spent another cent on. While this new version can promote longer 10 minute battery life, this vacuum costs a fortune for what it does, and should have not expectation that its battery will maintain that 10 minute performance for long. For less than half the price you can buy any number of good hand vacs with powerful suction, lots of accessories included, and battery life over 10 minutes. And when they ultimately get to the point where they won't hold a charge....you can recycle them and buy a new one, and still have spent less money than a Dyson.
