This is a step adaptor for the 1-1/4-inch hose on the Fein vacuums. The adaptor reduces from 1-1/4-inch down to 1-inch. This allows Feins hose to adapt to different sized dust ports on tools from different manufacturers. The rubber adaptor can be cut to the correct step size for the tools dust port.

I bought this adapter to connect a shop vacuum to my Hole Pro shields and it does the job by and large. I found it necessary to snip off segments to make everything fit together tight and so this meant one adapter per tool. I had to get two of these to connect to both a large HEPA vac and one of the DeWalt small cord/cordless vacuums I use.

DeWalt is a great little vacuum by the way.

I bought this to attach my Craftsman 6 HP shop vac to my Makita 5" random orbit sander. I bought the 1-1/4" hose for the vac and this adapter. I cut off the largest ring of the adapter, and removed the dust bag from the Makita, and it slipped right on. Recommended if you're tired of eating dust.

The small accessory is reasonably priced compared to some other Fein accessories, and it's really useful -- much more so than the cylindrical rubber connector that comes with the vacuum.
Put the large diameter end over the end of the vacuum hose and you can securely push the other end into the dust port of a miter saw, orbital sander or other dust-generating tool that has a 1" to 1-1/4" diameter dust port (25 to 31 mm). For example it matches the Fein hose to the dust port of a Bosch sliding compound miter saw securely enough so that the hose stays in place when the saw goes back and forth on the sliders.
You really don't need to trim it for the particular tool you're attaching it to. Just leave it untrimmed and you can use for many tools.

I used this to connect my Festool CT Mini vac standard hose to my Makita and Bosch tools. It fits well after trimming the tapered end of this connector. I am glad that Amazon sells this simple and useful item that my local big name hardware stores failed to provide.

Don't be oversold on the hyped superiority of Festool vacs for their tools. While they are excellent vacs (I own one in addition to a Fein Turbo II) with tons of features, strictly from a vacuuming standpoint they don't offer any better performance than the Fein - and that includes any supposed advantage of the Festool vac's variable speed.
The one use for which I prefer the Festool vac is for sanding. But that's because I have a Festool vac with a HEPA filter, and I do not have the HEPA filter for my Fein. There is also one really good reason to prefer the FEIN vac over Festool, and that's the cost of bags! Unlike sanding dust, chips from a tool like the Festool Domino will fill a bag in a hurry. Do yourself a favor and attach the Domino to your Fein instead!
This adapter can be trimmed to fit any Festool power tool and will store nicely in the Systainer. It is as flexible as the end of the Festool hose, so will adapt to either the round or oval dust outlets on Festool tools.
