I ordered the Navigator and was excited to use it. I received it; put it together, (wasn't hard, the main parts were already assembled). I turned it on and noticed stuff getting sucked up that I didn't know existed. My excitement turned to dismay when I noticed the brush light wasn't on and the brush wasn't turning. I made sure everything was attached correctly it was. I looked at the manual and followed directions to check for blockage, (which there wasn't, just used it for the first time). I called Customer Service and was instructed to do what I just did and the light still didn't come on, the brush didn't work. The Customer Service rep told me to hold and came back to tell me that she was going to order me another brush and the part would cost me $95.00. I laughed and told her I don't think so, I just took it out of the box and I'm not paying for anything. She told me to hold and came back to say there would be no charge, (duh), and it could take up to three weeks for the replacement. I was so PO'd, I could have just went to WalMart to buy it and take it back w/the receipt if it didn't work to get another one. I don't think the rep even listened to me, if I told her I just took it out of the box and received it today, why on earth would she think that I need to pay for a replacement part? I'll have to come back and rate it when I actually have the brush, the main attachment at the bottom, and hopefully it will work. I do know the suction works because like I said, stuff was getting sucked up you cannot see with the naked eye.

After reading many of the glowing reviews about the Navigator, I decided to try it out. As reported, the suction power of the vacuum is great and if all you want to do is roll it over wall-to-wall carpeting or hardwood floors with few obstacles, it will clean them well.
BUT, if you want to vacuum rugs that aren't securely anchored to the floor, vacuum underneath ANYTHING, use the attachments, or want to vacuum for more than 1/2 hour or so, that's when you run into trouble.
The Navigator has so much suction (it's not adjustable) that it quickly grabs hold of the edges and sides of area rugs and throw rugs. To vacuum these with the Navigator, you need two people--one to stand on one side of the rug while you vacuum from the other end.
Even when laid almost flat, the body of the Navigator prevents it from rolling under furniture that is less than 1 foot high. So vacuuming under beds, dressers, etc, even a little distance, is impossible. Obviously, this vacuum isn't meant for rolling under furniture. Also, the attachments don't comfortably allow you to vacuum under furniture either for reasons described below.
The attachments are decent, but using them is frustrating because the expandable hose doesn't expand easily. While using the attachments, your motions pull on the tightly wound hose, and the hose always pulls the vacuum over! Even if you wrap the hose around the bottom hook (as instructed in the manual), the hose dislodges itself from the hook very quickly as you move around the room. The Navigator's little wheelbase doesn't allow it to follow your pulling motions well. So the vacuum is always falling onto the floor. Mercifully, however, you can at least operate the Navigator horizontally (e.g., after it's fallen). So if you don't mind a visually stupid situation, you can still use the attachments to clean things.
The dust container is tiny, as many people have reported, and fills up quickly. Thus, you're constantly emptying it. In truth, I haven't tried overfilling it since the manual predicts dire results if you do. But I'm sorely tempted, since otherwise, after about one-half hour of vaccuming your rugs, the container is full. Emptying the container is also messy and very dusty unless you wrap a plastic bag around the lower half of the container (not an easy job) while you empty it.
Lastly, long hair loves to wrap itself tightly around the bristles of both the main brush and the pet-hair brush. This requires a ton of manual removal. Neither of these brushes allows for easy hair removal. So if you know that you'll be vacuuming up long hair, you need to first go over everything without running the bristles. Then try vacuuming again with the bristles on. It may not help much.
Overall, if you only pay between $150-$200 for the Navigator, and all you need to do is vacuum large areas of fixed rugs or hardwood floors, it's fine. But if you do a lot of work with attachments or need to vacuum underneath anything, you should invest in a canister vacuum with a long hose and a fairly flat power nozzle, especially one that lets you easily remove wound-up hair.

I wanted a lighter-weight vacuum after having surgery. I own two Kirbys, but they weigh about 25 lbs. each (I have one upstairs and one downstairs so I don't have to lug them up & down stairs.) However, even though the Shark Navigator only weights about 16 lbs., it was harder to push on my plush carpet. It doesn't have the drive mechanism that the well-built Kirby has to help it to glide when it's turned on.
So, in short, I only used it on a small piece of carpet and will be returning it to Bed, Bath & Beyond. If you want an easy-to-maneuver vacuum, this isn't it. I believe in the Shark philosophy about having great suction because it's bagless, but without a special mechanism to help it glide over carpeting, that great suction makes it a pain to push. I worked up a sweat in just a few minutes - something I wanted to avoid because of surgery.

This is probably the fifth or sixth vacuum cleaner that I have had and I am super thrilled with it. We have three large dogs and three cats and needless to say we have a lot of pet hair to deal with. I read several reviews before purchasing this machine and several people mentioned that it made their carpet look new again. I can't honestly go that far but it blows my other vacuum away. My other vacuum is made specifically for pet hair pickup so you would think it would have good suction but what would take several swipes with my old one is done in one or two with this one. It has also sucked up dust that I didn't know was in the carpet until it picked it up. It also will suck up cat litter without slinging it all over the floor. You just have to go over it slowly and let it do its thing. The attachment also makes it really easy to vacuum the dust off the tops of the curtains and suck up cobwebs.
The only issues I have with it are very small. One is that it does fall over when you are using the hose attachment but so have all of my other uprights on one occasion or another. Not a big deal to me since it is a light machine so this one won't knock you out if it falls over on you while you're bent over. Another issue is that it does have a really small dust cup. Again, not a big deal to me. It just has to be emptied more often but it is super easy to take off, empty and put back. I have had it for about a month and a half now and I am still as thrilled with it as I was when I first got it. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Received on June 16,2010. Very easy to put together. Just did rugs in 4 rooms and then gave the shark a try. Had to empty the cup twice. We have 2 dogs and the pick-up and power was awsome. Were looking into $400 dollar machines but after reading reviews decided to give the Shark a try. It's only day one and i hope it keeps up to my expectations.
