The vaccuum and the powerhead is fantastic. The little connectors in the wands (2 tiny prongs in each) are an example of poor engineering. They brake often. I bought new wands on eBay once a year (sometimes more often). The newer model, that I bought this year) have an improved system, and so far no problems with the connectors.

Do not buy this vacuum, unless you can get extended warranty. Life span is about 3 years. I had mine for 28 months with no problem, too bad the warranty is 24 months.
I bought it because of the Electrolux name, and because my old Electrolux lasted many, many years. Eureka bought the name so...it's not an Electrolux.
Read the reviews and you'll notice that those who said it was great only had theirs a short time. I too would have wrote "great vacuum" a year ago, even 2 years ago, but after 2 years, 4 months the powerhead has stopped working. After doing some online research and speaking with several independent repair centers I found this is very common. The parts to fix mine will be $200.00+, not including labor and shipping. The repair parts for this vacuum are very expensive. Since I paid $425.00 new, I expected more. I expected it to last. I am very disappointed.
I also read so many positive reviews of this vacuum before I made my purchase. I wish I had considered how long the reviewer had their vacuum when I read their reviews.

I actually bought an EL7001. A 2-cent clip that joins the power head to the wand broke off, and we tried an Electrolux store for repairs. They told us "Oh, we don't handle those--they're made by Eureka. If you want a REAL Electrolux, bring it in for a trade-in." Now, would you buy anything from idiots like that?? The vacuum is now worthless, because the power head won't stay on. One star is more than they're worth.

After much research on my part (as most of you have done), I purchased the model EL6888A from Lowes over 6 years ago & have never experienced an unfixable problem with the vacuum...can't say the same for a mid-range Frigidaire fridge that expired at less than 4 years old. The compressor went and of course, I hadn't purchased the extended warranty...repairman said it wasn't worth fixing after shipping, labor costs, etc.; that they're made to replace, not repair.
Back to the vacuum...even with an active Samoyed (and a recently deceased Collie/Shepherd mix), the Oxygen does a wonderful job of keeping area rugs and (lots of) hardwood floors clean and the HEPA filter system plus sealed container/bag eliminate practically all particle escape and allergens...the suction is still amazing...tools work fine also...I add a natural potpourri mix to the bag and the fragrance released is fabulous. A few negatives are, as some stated, tripping over the cord occassionally, and repositioning the canister. Several times the light indicator for full bag flicked on after the bag had already overflowed a bit into the hose, so I do keep an eye on that, but other than replacing the belt due to a helpful husband catching the fringe from an afghan by mistake, this vacuum continues to serve me very well.

I've had the Oxygen for about 4 years now. I spent a lot of time researching before making the purchase, and thought I'd made a great choice. We have all hardwood floors and two area rugs. Within the first few months the tool caddy broke off so I never really used any of the attachments. The power head for carpet is great and I felt it was doing a nice job of cleaning the carpets...however, just as the warranty expired, within weeks it seemed, the power head stopped working. I took it to a local repair shop and the connectors in the wand had blown (melted plastic, as other reviewers noted.) It cost around $110 to replace this part. The hardwood floor brush is just OK, it almost seemed like it was for a different vacuum...I found it kept falling off in the beginning and was a bit awkward to use. Anyway, long story short, the power head has stopped working again. This time I was told it's the electric hose...another $90. I'm on the fence between ditching the vacuum completely and purchasing something new like the Panasonic MC-CG885....or spending the money and hoping I get another couple of years out of the Oxygen. Hmmmmm. It is pretty good when it works, but beware of costly repairs. The guy at the vacuum shop said Electrolux are some of the worst vacuums, they are basically designed to break...fatally flawed... Somehow the pretty design and featured wooed me 4 years ago.
