 "Spinning brush broke twice!" 2010-11-02
By S. Appiah (Maryland)
I bought this vacuum clean because it was lighter and more slim to store. However, I had to return it because I accidentally sucked up a piece of clothing while vacuuming, and it causes the brush to break. Simply stopped turning. I returned it for a replacement. Since that time, it has since happened again! I'm sorry, but I do move things out of the way when vacuuming. However, the edge of the bedspread got caught and that little mishap caused the new brush AGAIN to stop rotating. ANNOYING. I am going to have to contact Bissel for yet another replacement. It has been less than a year. In addition, the gray piece that you push to unlock the bagless part broke as well. I wouldn't buy this vacuum again. I would get a more solid vacuum that doesn't break if you accidentally suck up a piece of clothing or something!

"Beats a Dyson hands down" 2010-10-23
By k_stu (Iowa USA)
I put this to the test in the Kohls store where I purchased it. We plugged it in by the small appliance area and tested the floor models, putting it head to head with the Dyson Ball. We first vacuumed an area of carpeting in the store with a Shark vacuum. It could not even pick up the threads that were on the floor. Next we ran the Dyson ball and it picked up the threads and picked up the nap of the commercial carpeting. Next we went over it with the Bissell ProLite, and noticed how much it picked up, including sand that was deep in the carpet, that the Dyson left behind. We were impressed, so I ordered it online, on sale, with my 30% coupon I got in the mail, and got free shipping as well.

When it arrived, it took about 4 minutes to assemble it. When I vacuumed the first floor, I was blown away. It filled the canister 1/4 of the way full. My old vacuum was running out of steam, but this was embarrassing how dirty my carpeting was. The biggest shocker was all the fine sand that it pulled out of the carpeting. During the winter, they sand the roads here, so that sand has been there since last winter. YUCK! Way to go Bissell ProLite. Other good features:

-Truly light weight.

-Comes with a stair attachment with spinning brush

-The hose for vacuuming is 9 feet long.

-Emptying the canister is super easy.

One con: the extension attachments are cumbersome to connect to the hose, and have to be stored in a storage bag (that is included), and they don't have a spot on the vacuum for storage. I say no problem, since that makes it that much lighter.

Buy with confidence. This vacuum works well.

"Is it made to break?" 2010-10-10
By Geoffrey A Rhodes (Buffalo, NY United States)
I found all the good things mentioned in other reviews to be true. But there is one very bad thing not mentioned...

When I received the vacuum I thought it was a strange design to have the detachable hose just sitting in a little tube... It seemed delicate to have the whole vaccuum depend on this one little attachment-- if you were to get a hole in the hose, or if it didn't stay in it's little cup/tube thing, then the vacuum would be worthless. Sure enough, after a few weeks I bumped the hose attachment while vacuuming under the piano. The not-too-strong locking platic attachment broke, so the vacuum is useless. I now having it sitting on the floor, hoping that the two bungey cords and gorilla glue get the hose attached again so I don't have to throw it down the stairs. It looked like a stupid design because it was. I don't think this will be the last time. I can imagine accidentally stepping on the hose or some other misshap and having to duct tape and glue it in order to use the vacuum, until it just falls apart in about a year.

"doesn't work on some berber" 2010-09-01
By bonnie devor
I have rather expensive "SHAW" berber carpeting. This vacuum literally 'sticks' to it. Bissell sent me a new 'Sole Plate', which didn't make a difference. Then they said that my vacuum already had the revised 'Sole Plate' and maybe it wasn't the right 'fit' for my carpeting. If I had known that, I wouldn't have purchased it. I feel that there should have been a disclaimer in the discription of the vacuum stating that there might be a problem with some berber carpeting. VERY DISAPPOINTED with Bissell......VERY HAPPY with Amazon who agreed to let me return it.
