As an avid quilter I use my iron daily. This is hands down the best yet. For ironing fabric yardage just out of the drier it is a dream. The irons weight seems to melt the wrinkles right out. My husband irons his own dress shirts using the steam feature. He said the water well is big enough that the need to refill is cut down. No leaks. He had done the research and selected this make and model. We used Amazon to find the best price. I am very happy.

I ordered this iron to replace my piece-of-junk Rowenta DX8900. I sew and quilt alot, so I was thrilled that Reliable was offering an iron that had the option to disable the auto-off function. I also love the dual heating element feature that allows for the production of steam at any temperature setting, and the water reservoir is huge. That being said, I have found the iron to have two major design flaws in my opinion.



1. The controls are poorly located and it's too easy to accidently change the settings while ironing.



2. The steam function has auto-shutoff. After a few seconds of ironing the steam turns off unless the iron is kept in constant, vigorous motion. It isn't a problem when ironing, but it's a royal pain when trying to press open a seam and other sewing tasks that use long straight motions of the iron. I have to constantly pick up the iron and shake it as I go. I don't understand the point of the offering the auto-off disable feature for sewers/crafters and then having the steam shut off automatically. They must not have had sewers test the iron.



Unfortunately, there are very few quality irons on the market designed specifically for sewers who don't want an auto-off iron. The Reliable V100 comes closer than any other on the market right now. Overall, I like the iron, but I really wish that someone would design one that simply stays on, keeps steaming, and doesn't assume it knows what I want it to do.

This iron really does the job in smoothing out wrinkles. It heats up rapidly and beeps when it is ready. It is a little larger than a regular iron. I tend to hold onto the handle where the control buttons are and occasionally hit one of the contol buttons. I feel it's better balanced there. I am trying to remember to hold the handle farther down so my hand doesn't interfere with the control button. I am impressed with the ease of ironing with a good supply of steam.

Got this iron for Chrismas. The thing works great but...the heat and steam controls are placed on the handle directly below where the hand rests when ironing. I found that I was constantly checking to see if I was still at the right setting. The controls are easy to push and I just feel like there is potential for ruining fabric if the temp is inadvertantly switched hotter than the fabric allows. Oops there goes the polyester or silk in the trash. Oh and the iron is super heavy, just shy of 4 pounds. Rather hard to iron for a long time.

I really liked the rubber feet that are on the heel of the iron. I did not drop the iron ever like I have with my rowenta which is top heavy and tips easily. This one stayed upright with out difficulty.

Not the best pants press I have ever used, but, for sure, it is best I have seen or used in this price range. I think it out perform some we have used in London hotels, that cost a lot more. Does a very good job of keeping a neat press job on my suit pants. It is just so so for wash and wear pants just out of dryer. Depending what you want it to do it can be an excellent purchase.

Hey it does work but no worse than my Corby with timer. (Lowest cost Corby)



I have to reset for a second run as I do with the corby. The mounting of the pants is about the same. The price performance is good. It was less than half the price of the corby.



Had a no name hot unit for 20 years my wife purchased at a discount store for $79. That no name did damp wool pants with a perfect crease and had a full one hour timer. It was very hot and probably in danger of setting the house on fire. It took 20 years to finally pop but you only had to set it once.



I suspect there is a lower temp thermistor on these new units and not an extended timmer.

Most likely, even the most expensive $300+ are regulated by the same safety rules.

The pant press is ok for $99 you get what you paid for, major issue is the material on the inside where the slacks are pressed is very difficult to flatten out the pants thus you tend to get wrinkles unless you are very carefull when you close the machine. I have had other pressers and this was not an issue so must be the material they used inside the pressing area.

This press meets my expectations and performs equally well on my 100% cotton khakis and my wool trousers.



What this press is is a decent quality pants press that does a sufficiently adequate job of removing wrinkles from a pair of pants such that, in most cases, hand ironing is not required.



However, it is not (nor was I expecting it to be):



1. A professional dry cleaning system.

2. A hand-ironed-quality press.

3. A table-top steam pants press.



If I could change one thing about this unit, I would lengthen the platens so as to allow my size 32 inseam slacks to fit somewhat easier and more fully onto the platen, but this is a relatively minor quibble.



The bottom line is that the press does exactly what I expected it to do and I would definitely make the same purchase again given the first-hand knowledge and experience I now have of the unit.

The Pantman was a waste of money. Just pressed the wrinkles in the pants and never really did a good job of making anything look presemntable. Mine quit altogether after less than a month. No heat. I took the circuitry apart and found that it works by using an overheat thermal breaker to shut off, and the "on" button is just a piece of plastic that pushes the reset button on the thermal breaker. Pretty cheesy setup, and not at all durable. Save your money, and learn to use an iron.

This product is a huge disappointment. It is very difficult to push even using the handle. It heats the steam quickly, but after a very few swipes, the pad becomes totally saturated and the "drying" feature is completely gone. The more you steam, the more saturated the pad becomes and the heavier it gets. It essentially becomes a very heavy mop.

These replacement pads are somewhat better fitting that the original ones purchased with the Steamboy. However, the pads were advertised as a 5-pack. Sometime after receiving the product, I opened the package and found it to contain only four pads. I contacted Amazon.com which basically said, "Not our problem, contact the distributor." Amazon did give me the distributor name....don't recall it at the moment...I went to that website, did not find a telephone number but was able to provide an e-mail giving all the details through the website. I've never heard from the distributor in any manner.

I cannot live without the extra pads. I have a Walmart kids' foam floor that covers my entire living room floor. It is VERY hard to clean and gets filthy fast with twin boys and their crew of friends and playdates. The pads are great and this seller is good, sending the pads in a reasonable amount of time.



I need multiple pads for the hardwood vs. the Walmart playmat. If you buy a T1 Steamboy just know that you should probably have a few on hand for larger homes.

I initially gave this a positive review on Amazon but I must retract it. I purchased the Steamboy in June of '07 and several months ago it broke. The bottom plastic triangle part where the screws attach shattered. I don't think that the plastic was made to withstand the heat that the mop produces and broke after about 2 1/2 years of using it. I don't think this is acceptable for the price of the product! Also I found the length of the cord to be an annoyance. I wasn't able to get very far in cleaning until I had to unplug and move it and then wait for it to be ready to steam again. I recently bought the Shark steam mop and have been happy with it. I would never buy another Steamboy, the concept was a good one but the product quality is shabby and there are better products out there. This one is not Reliable like the name says! Please don't waste your money.

Not So "Reliable".



My wife and I have enjoyed steamy floors for about 2 1/2 years, when suddenly about 2 weeks ago (Jan/2010) the lower housing of the mop cracked and a chunk of it fell free. This is the part that is covered by the cloth triangle, that directs the steam.



Upon investigating I found that the plastic had become so eggshell brittle, I could put my thumb right through it. What the.... !! Well, this is just awful, and there goes my $100 mop, plus $25 in additional floor pads. I'm terribly disappointed. Didn't they consider that the plastic should withstand heat up to 210 degrees Fahrenheit?



I'm going to try and see if I can get from them a replacement lower housing. 5 screws plus re-install the steam vent on the bottom should do it, phillips screwdriver being the only required tool. I hope, otherwise it's back to the mop-bucket.



Update 4/23/2010

Well, the lower housing unit plus shipping was going to be about $30 + dollars, so it didn't seem to be worth while. We've been un-steamy and un-happy since.

I have parquet floors in my kitchen and foyer. It's really great to have a product that uses steam to clean. I was very happy with how the floor looked after finishing the mopping. It took quite a while for me to complete the job due to the fact that the cover would not stay on. I finally used three large safety pins to gather the cover at the corners and to keep it in place. Surely the manufacturer will come up with a better design.

I bought this mop in mid-2007 and loved it -- note the past tense.



It did all as advertized, cleaned the floors left no residue, etc.



I paid about $100 at the time, but it seemed like a good deal over time to get the cleanliness which I wanted.



In January 2010, I was using the mop and about halfway through the job, the bottom plate of the triangular head broke catastrophically into about 20 pieces.



I contacted Reliable to let them know about this and to see if they would replace the mop. I told them that I loved the mop. They replied that the mop was out of warranty -- which I knew.



So if you like to spend about $100 to get something that lasts for about 2½ years and then fails catastrophically, go ahead and spend your money.



Like I said, I loved the mop -- WHILE IT LASTED.

Our Steamboy came in good condition & as promised. My wife had made it home 30 minutes before me when it arrived, and when I walked in the door, she had already assembled it, and had completed half of our all down stairs Tile. It was making a tremendous buzzing sound, & I told her something was not right. No heat or steam was coming out. After resnapping in the water canister, water began to flow, it heated up the pad in seconds, and steam appeared. She ended up redoing the entire floor again, this time with steam. It losens up the crud in the grout so as to make it easier to clean the grout shortly thereafter, and leaves the tile shiny & clean.

I like this product except for the fact that sometimes it is hard to get the cloth covers to stay on tightly. But, I do love the fact that my floors and sanitized are come out looking great. The terry cloth covers wash easily and a little bleach and into the washer gets them good as new. I wish the steam could be converted into a hand held appliance, instead of having to buy another appliance. It does a great job of removing light dirt from carpet. I wish it had an on/off switch.

I bought this since my dd has severe allergies. It heats up quickly and puts out HOT steam which is what I wanted. The bonus pads were a great idea. I thought about sending it back right away and I should have. It broke after 6months of use. Started leaking after about 3. The cord is way to short. On the flip side it worked great when it worked and made a huge difference for my dd's allergies. But I don't have money to waste and now it is SCREACHING at me and won't heat up.



Off to find a different brand...

This mop is amazing, no questions asked. It produces steam in 20 seconds (I can't understand the review that said it took 45 mintues to build up) and cleaned my floor well. My 4 month old gets baby cereal on the floor that turns to a virtual cement, and the steamboy removed it in one swipe! It leaves me floor almost dry, too (there is a learning curve, though). Super cool: it removed a coffee stain from my carpet that was probably a year old. This is worth every penny invested!! Buy this mop!
