I bought the Singer 7469Q Confidence Quilter because my old machine is on its last leg and I want to do free-motion quilting. I am very pleased with the Singer Confidence Quilter's ability to do free-motion quilting as well as regular and decorative stitches. The extension table allows smooth movement of a large quilt sandwich so the machine can be used on top of a normal table. I chose this machine because I love quilting and it was the most affordable one with feed dogs which can be lowered and programmable needle up/down, and they work fine. I haven't used the twin-needle or buttonhole features yet.



I like the presser feet that came with the machine. I have used the all-purpose foot for piecing and the even-feed foot and closed-toe darning foot for quilting. Since this machine was sold as a "Quilter" it would have been nice if it also included an open-toe darning foot as that is the main foot used by most free-motion quilters.



The most disappointing thing is that LED light is so dim, it is like trying to sew in the dark. I mounted a $35 "Bendable Bright Light" onto the sewing machine and it works great. I would have preferred to pay a little more for the sewing machine to have a decent light built-in. But, I highly recommend Singer Confidence 7469Q Quilter especially for frugal quilters. Even though I had to purchase a light, the Confidence Quilter is still an excellent value. It performs well and costs less than my 1983 Kenmore did. Since I didn't pay an arm and a leg for the sewing machine, I can still afford to buy some fabric.

I bought this machine for myself for Christmas. I had put it off for a long time, knowing that any new machine would not be as sturdy or reliable as my old Singer. But I really wanted to do free-motion quilting, and on my old machine you couldn't drop the feed dogs. All my worst fears were realized. Right off the bat, the thread take-up lever was bent and hit the casing every time it moved up and down. Clackety clack clackety clack the whole time. Because I was anxious to get started, I just removed that part of the case. But many other features disappointed - it is not possible to start a seam at the edge of the fabric, the fabric becomes wedged in the plate and won't move forward. This also applies to the back-up feature. And because the back-stitch is electronic and not manual, there is often a lag between front and back stitching. It is impossible to get the stitches to an even length - they are consistently squeezed together regardless of what tension is selected. At first it was very difficult to drop and raise the feed dogs as the lever was very stiff. Now the feed dogs will not raise at all and I have to find out how and where to get it repaired. As others pointed out, the light is ridiculously tiny and dim. The bobbin threader is very temperamental; often the thread will wind below the bobbin and have to be pulled out and started again. It is very a very ungainly process to change presser feet - for most a screw driver is required. Because the stitch length and width selection are manual, it is very difficult to get a precise setting to match previous stitching. The pedal is not at all sensitive, so it is very difficult to regulate speed. My old machine at least had two speeds you could start with; this one does not.



The one good thing I can say about this machine is that the needle-threader is great. As long as you have the handwheel turned so that the needle hole is in the proper position and the little barb sticks through the hole, it works every time.

I've had this machine for a week now, and am still trying to decide whether to return it. I got it set up and working quite easily, including the tension adjustment that bothers some people. I've got two problems:



1) If I try to begin sewing near the edge of the fabric, or begin further in and backstitch to the edge, it sucks the fabric down and chews it up. I'm doing piecework so I need to be able to sew to the edge!



2) Posted a question to Singer's website about instructions for the quilting attachments; no response in a week. Doesn't give me confidence in their customer service. (Edited to add-- Singer responded to my question soon after I posted this, after more than a week. So either customer service is slow, or Amazon reviews are a better way to contact them!)

This machine performs as advertized as far as power goes. It will breeze through thicker layers of fabric.

The thing I do not like about it, is that critical parts are not metal, but plastic. The lever that raises the presser foot broke the first time I tested it out. When the needle clamp broke recently, I discovered that it is not metal either. C'mon...it is a commercial machine. What good is a powerful motor if the parts are plastic inside?

I am very happy with my Singer 7463 Confidence Sewing Machine. After purchasing a computerized Brother machine that broke after 4 days, I bought the Singer 7463. I was replacing a Singer Fashionmate 362 that I had since I was a teenager. I wanted more stitch options. The Brother was so fragile that I soon realized that I would not be able to sew all that I wanted. The Singer has great stitch options, and it is very solid. I have been using a few times a week since I bought it just after Christmas. I love that it is solid, easy to thread, and the light is good. It did not come with a screw driver- and the one from my previous machine worked fine. But it must be small and short to work in this machine. I recommend purchasing it too- well worth it. The feet that comes with it are good for sewing and quilting. It is light weight- has a handle that is easy to use. My last machine I could not carry- this one would travel easily - and I look forward to taking to friends' houses. I sew on every fabric you can think of including paper. This machine will last me an easy 20-30 more years, easily. The only other machine I plan to add in the next 5 years is an embroidery/quilting machine, but I would still need a "basic" machine like the Singer 7463, that is so much more than what I replaced. I will have a hard time with anything that is not a Singer- they are such good machines.

Ever since this sewing machine was brand new, it has made rattling sounds and jams to a halt, signaling a beeping alarm, especially when hemming denim. Even an experienced sewing lady at Jo-Ann's was surprised that it did not sew through certain parts of denim hems. Now, after two months of okay sewing, the part that rotates around the bobbin has gone so completely out of alignment with the rest of the machine that when the needle goes down it hits rock bottom, bends like crazy laterally, and breaks the needle. This particular machine had the same problems that taniamc mentions in her review. Maybe the Singer 7442 or Brother XL2600I is higher quality.

The first one I got was in Jan '09. It lasted me until June, and I started having a lot of problems with it. It started making terrible noises, sounded awful, wouldn't sew straight, stitches were inconsistent, tension was messing up intermittently I had to stop using it for vacation, got back and it was worse than ever. I sent it in for service (it took 3 weeks) and they sent it back saying they had adjusted the tension and found nothing wrong. It worked quietly for about 10 minutes, and then started freaking out again. I took it back and they swapped it out for a new one . The new one started having problems with feeding the fabric and rattling by the second day. The pressure on the presser foot was off, and there was no way of adjusting it. No way to lower the feed dogs either. I ended up returning it for a refund.



I was really disappointed with the quality of this machine. I wanted it to work well, and it did... briefly. It seems Singer has really lowered the bar with their quality standards.

My story:

It was coming down the last couple weeks of school (Fashion Design Major) and I had 4 garments to finish and out of the blue my sewing machine broke! What was a girl with a deadline to do? Come on Amazon.com of course! Whenever I need a review I always come on here so I hunted down this here Singer Confidence. I have previously seen this on the Martha Stewart show and thought yeah.. probably too good to be true but nope! All the reviews on here gave me the green light to purchase it in a local fabric store and I couldn't have been happier about it!

This machine is incredible. I've sewed on industrial sewing machines and thought nothing could come close to the feel and smoothness that industrials have but this has proved my lil sewing heart wrong!

Once I took it out of the box I whipped out a slab of muslin to test out all the different stitches! They were all beautiful, easy easy easy to do and wow I really love the back-tack button! The buttonhole/buttons feature is really great and simple to use. I love how quick and easy winding/changing the bobbin is. I have nothing but great things to say about this machine! No cons whatsoever!

The main thing that is a highlight for me is that I was able to open this up and use it instantly without having to read the entire manual. I wound my bobbin, set my stitching length and off I went! It was such a relief to have done that because I had absolutely no time to waste!

I genuinely feel like anyone, extremely beginner or exceptionally advanced would LOVE this machine because bottom line it is an absolute dream to use. Very simple, great quality, great PRICE!, wonderful instructions if you need them, easy easy easy! easy! Just had to throw that last easy in there for good measure! :)

So long story short, I finished all my dresses for my final for school without any problems whatsoever. *Shimmy shakes*

After about a year of off and on, I bought this on a black Friday sale for $199 at JoAnn's. LOVE IT! Just drop in the bobbin. I've done several projects, including sewing apparel and quilting, and it has never, ever jammed. I have had thread break once after almost doing a whole quilt (Coats thread) and never w/Gutermann.



I LOVE THIS MACHINE! It really did give me confidence, as I know the problem was not all me. Very quiet, smooth, and steady.

It works great NOW. I purchased this machine last month and had similar issues with the straight stitching. I had changed the foot from the original one that was on it. I had never seen a closed foot like that before so I put on the one I was familiar with that came with the accessories. I tried everything to get the stitches right, including changing the machine's needle, increasing the tension, decreasing the tension, and rethreading the machine. When I was just about to give up and throw it out the window, I put the original foot back on. That did the trick! It works fine now, and I have used stitches I've never used before, like the scallop stitch to decoratively hem a sundress and the overcast seam stitch which looks professional! I have been sewing on Singer machines for 42 years and was very hesitant to purchase one of these "new fangled" computerized models. Lots of plastic, but lots of fun! I'm enjoying playing with all the stitches! I will never give up my 30 year old machine and since I started giving sewing lessons to my daughter and her friend, now they can sew together. I would definitely recommend this machine - great price for great quality.

I purchased this product thru Amazon, since my local retailers carry only the low end sewing machines, which didn't seem to fare well in the product reviews I found online. Previously, I had been using a Singer Touch and Sew Model 775 purchased over 30 years ago and it has seen a lot of duty. There are also no repair centers close by, so when my old machine developed multiple problems, I decided to buy a basic machine that could straight sew, zigzag, and make easy buttonholes - but not the bottom of the line machines. I couldn't find a lot of reviews on the model 7467, but the ones I did find were positive, so this seemed like a good fit eventhough I wasn't interested in all the fancy stitches. Unfornately, the machine performed well only on zigzag - the straight stitch was horrible. I tried various needles, threads, and tension settings, but once I had tried sewing a little heavier weight fabric, I couldn't get a quality straight stitch regardless of the adjustments. I returned the machine to the vendor, who promptly refunded my money - but it was a $55 expense with return shipping, insurance and restocking. I know they don't make them like they used to, but this machine was a piece of junk. The vendor said this is the first complaint he had on this model, so maybe mine was just a lemon.

The steam press is very good for fusing large areas of fusibles to fabric, making the process of making something, such as a purse, much quicker. Also, no lines from the edge of a regular iron on the finished product.

I was very excited to receive my steam press for Christmas this year, it was just what I wanted. I love pressing my vintage pillow cases, sheets and napkins ( I was unable to conquer shirts or blouses). I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if there is a design flaw but I've used the steam press twice and I've been very, very careful, however, I'm always burning the top of my fingers. I'm careful when trying to get the item (ie. pillow case) toward the back as instructed in the manual and pull items forward but to get the item straight so as not to have a crease I've burned three fingers on my left hand just above the knuckles. I believe if the top part of the steamer would raise another inch or so I could slip the items I'm pressing to the back and get them prepared to press without burning my fingers.



One last thing, I wear glasses and the steam comes up and steams my glasses every time I use the steam feature. I'm going to try using the press once more and if I burn my fingers again I'm going back to my old standard iron and ironing board.

Great when it works, but it's been to the repair shop (must ship it--cost & hassle) and now needs to go again and it's not even a year old. 1st time, it wouldn't sew a simple straight stitch unless you put it on zig-zag!! Now, it won't wind a bobbin--runs for 2 seconds and stops. Turn it off and back on, runs for 2 seconds and stops. Turn it off and back on, etc. Totally unreliable machine and a waste of money!

I have been limping along with an old, cranky machine for years. Finally, my husband bought me this machine for Christmas and I have been sewing every since! It is light and easily set up on the dining room table. It's quiet and easy to change settings. I did have one thread jam. My heart fluttered as I thought, "here it goes, the good times are over!!" but that was hasty. It has been working fine ever since.I am so glad to have a machine I can create and sew with.

The only other machine I used before this one was my mom's old (1970s era) Singer Stylist. My goodness is this an upgrade! I was able to find it for an amazing deal somewhere other than Amazon, though I haven't seen that good of a price but on a used floor model since. You will not be disappointed with this machine. It powers through multiple layers, the see-through bobbin case is quite helpful for knowing when you're running low on the bobbin thread, and It is very intuitive and easy to use. I haven't had any troubles with it(I've had it for a year and a half.)



Bottom line: You'll love it!

I probably shouldn't review this machine after only the first couple days, but what a nice machine. I don't think it's all that heavy. The threading has simplified since the last time I had a sewing machine, and I got the little needle threader to work. I have a problem that I'm left handed. It's difficult for me to use the needle threader and even more difficult to change the needle.



The video helped a lot. Too bad they didn't do a short segment on maintenance. There's not that much to maintain. My first project involved sewing two quilt thicknesses together. The outer fabric was a smooth cotton, so the upper piece pushed a little out of alignment from the lower piece. Then when I did the french seam second pass, things realigned themselves.



I ordered the combo with the carrying case. Walmart has the same case for 2/3 the cost.
