 "Product Work But....." 2010-03-30
By Prashant Deshpande
The product works but there were the following experience spoiled it for me. My review is more a reflection on the seller than on the product

1. The order took a long time to ship

2. The box was packaged shabbily and there was a cleaning item which was promised on the box which was missing. Though the product worked as advertised

3. The Product looked used. It was wet from inside. I was led to believe that this was a brand new product.

I would caution anyone to beware of buying anything from this seller.

"Humidistadt not reliable; Works well with distilled water" 2010-02-15
By Dennis
I left a similar review for the AOS7135.

I became wary of inhaling this white dust so I switched to distilled water but it was too much of a hassle to buy 10-14 jugs each week for each humidifier.

I think this will work well for you if your water has low mineral content or if you don't mind buying a lot of distilled water regularly.

The humidistat is rather useless. Mine typically remains at 25% even though 3 other external monitors report 38-42%. So the AOS7135 never shuts off and over-humidifies my room. You might be better off with the less expensive AOS7135 (if you are ok with the looks) or the AOS7145 (if you don't need the heating option).

I returned the unit and purchased the Vornado Evaporative humidifier instead. I use it with the Protec cartridge and make sure to clean it well every week to reduce bacteria build up in the wicks. So far so good.

 "OWNED FOR 4yrs" 2010-01-04
By Jay Ski (MA)
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I have used many types & brands which have all failed at some point. The worst was $150 Holmes warm-mist, which failed & melted in a plastic smokey mess while I slept one night (thank god for smoke detectors). My friend recomended this Air-O-Swiss unit. It was more expensive, however totally worth it! I have owned this unit for 4yrs so far & very pleased. It's easy to maintain, consistant & reliable. Uses very little electricity in both "cool" & "warm" mist modes. It can evaporate up to 7 gal/day in "high/warm" mode, 3-1/2 gal/day in "med/cool" mode. FYI, keep it clean & it will last!

"noisy, humidity gauge is not effective" 2009-12-04
By Tracy (Glen Burnie, MD United States)
We've gone through three different versions of this humidifier at this point via returns.

It's quiet when you first get it, but the fan progressively gets louder and louder. I'm not a light sleeper, but it was even bothering me before the latest return. My husband is a light sleeper and is having a lot of trouble with it.

The humidity gauge doesn't seem to work and appears to operate randomly.

The best I can say for it is that it does emit lots of mist. I'm going to try a different humidifier next time, and really can't recommend this one. Too bad.

"This product is TERRIBLE !" 2009-11-03
By Bob Bettendorf (New York, NY USA)
Two seasons ago I bought 3 (THREE) of these units for our apartment. One for our living room/kitchen area and one for each of our two bedrooms. I maintained them diligently - which is a LOT of work. Within two humdifying seasons all three units were broken - they no longer produced mist of any kind. I tried to contact Air-O-Swiss on many occassions to rectify this problem and their customer service was abysmal. They made a few suggestions, none of which worked. In the end I was told an Air-O-Swiss representative would contact me in an effort to rectify these problems and the whole situation. Six months later I am still waiting for that call. These units were expensive, high maintenance ( and also very expensive for cleaners, filters and ionic sticks) and in the end were just a huge disappointment. Save your money and go for another cheaper brand and save yourself the aggravation. I will never buy another Air-O-Swiss unit, neither should you ! Also, my neighbor just informed me her exact same model is now leaking after just one season. Avoid this expensive and poorly designed product.

 "Lacks automatic shut-off." 2010-01-17
By Richard B. Resnick
The unit lacks an automatic shut-off when the water tank is empty. Although instructions state that the nebulizer function shuts off when the water level is low, it also advises not to run the unit when the water tank is empty. A warning light indicates when the tank is empty, but this requires that you manually turn off the power. Obviously to turn unit off you must be present and not asleep.

Noise during operation is higher than expected, based on pre-purchase reviews.

Overall, I am very pleased with the unit.

 "Warranty not honored" 2010-01-17
By Peter Gacs (Boston, MA USA)
I am having a very frustrating experience with Air-O-Swill customer

service. It took 3-4 telephone calls and several emails even

to get the return authorization.

I sent in the unit more than a month ago, and have not heard from them ever since.

Now I am in the middle of winter, already a month without my humidifier.

I have telephoned them almost a week ago. They promised to call back, never did.

By the way, despite its demineralizer, the unit still deposits

a fine dust (maybe less than would without it).

 "Huge disippointment" 2010-01-15
By Conure fan (Illinois USA)
There is only one good thing I can say about this - it's quiet. The sound of the steam coming out is very faint, and the gurgles are far and few between. Now, for the bad:

It doesn't work well. The box says it can handle a room up to 650 square feet. Mine can't handle a room that's 200 square feet. When I first turned it on, it said the room's RH was 30, and I set it to the max, and it never got past 40% even though it should get up to 75 with the setting it was on.

Now it won't go above 37 percent, probably because I turned my house's fan on permanently to see if that will help with my humidity because I can't rely on this machine alone.

Second of all, this machine has a poor design with regards to the water storage. When you lift up the tank, there is still water on the bottom half of the machine that is separate from the tank, and it is not enclosed. Spills are inevitable.

Third: I hate when companies make claims without anything to back it up. I don't want them to insist that their silver cartridges are effective, I want a study that can back up how clean the water is when using the cartridge. Just because silver has been historically used to kill germs, doesn't mean that it was effective. There are no studies that prove the use of silver throughout time was effective, so how can you rely on history when it is unproven? And even if it did work throughout history, it doesn't mean that when you put some yellowish silver - ion powder in a plastic cartridge and make a strange looking stick that it will work the same. And hopefully I'm not breathing in silver right now as I am writing this.

Fourth: The value. If this were a twenty dollar humidifier, I wouldn't be surprised at how weak and poorly designed it is, but it's the cartridges that are in the 20 dollar range, not the machine itself. I want to bring this back to Bed Bath and Beyond where I bought it, but I'm afraid that I won't find anything better, since the reviews on humidifiers seem to be very poor over-all. For me, having something quiet is the priority, but it's not important above having the desired humidity, which is why I have a humidifier in the first place. Grrr.

"Great until 5 months later!" 2010-01-14
By Julia L. Halstead (TX, USA)
I loved this humidifier. I agree with all the people who gave it a 5 star. Its quite, has options for warm or cool steam, easy to use.

Beyond that I don't like it. I have used mine for 5 months and this is what I have found:

It is kind of expensive to clean if you have hard water (I do). You have to buy the reccommedned cleaner, and the replacement cartridges when the clean light comes on. Well I can say that I have cleaned it and changed the cartridge and the light is still on.

I have not banged it or dropped it or anything, but it leaks and floods all over. My husband looked at the container and there are no cracks, the base of it is not loose at all. The resevoir is fine and holds water well. When the two are put together, it leaks.

I would think for the price this machine should last longer than 5 months!

"Dust and consumables a drawback" 2010-01-12
By Andrew J (Washington, DC United States)
I'll add my views to the many good reviews here. I bought two of these units last winter and one more this fall. They're all still operating properly and show no defects or problems. A few pros and cons:

Pros:

1) Very quiet. Can only hear it at night.

2) Adds plenty of moisture to a room (although not the whole house--600 sq. feet means it)

3) Easy to operate.

Cons:

1) Dust. A very fine white powdery dust that clings to glass and the floor. Even with a new filter.

2) Consumables. Have to buy filter, cleaning solution, and ionization stick, which can get expensive.

3) Cleaning. A pain, but true for pretty much any humidifier.

4) Design. A filler hole on top sure would be nice.

5) Controls. Easy to use, but why to I have to reset the humidity level each time I turn it off?
