The battery lasted less than a year. It costs half the price of the original unit just to replace the battery.

Where in the world did Dyson's supposed great performance and customer care go with this product???!!! Sure the box says the battery charge only lasts 6 minutes, so that was not a surprise to me, but to have it quit completely, with no warning??? And then to find after 2 years of light use that it won't hold a charge to operate for more than a couple of minutes??? And then to rub salt in the wound, to find Dyson charges fully $75 for a new battery!!! Plus, it comes with no attachments. Put your money into pretty much any other hand vac and you'll get at least adequate suction, better battery life, a few accessories, and pay less than half the price. I have found the $65 Black & Decker or Dirt Devil both beat Dyson handily. And when that day comes in the distant future that they no longer hold a charge, recycle it and buy a new one.....and you'll still save money versus a Dyson.
Shame on you, Dyson, for dumping this junk on your customers and then not standing behind it! (And for those of you who are considering the newer model, consider if a stated 10 minute battery life really overcomes all the faults weaknesses this model shows.)

I wanted a powerful quality handheld vac for quick messes and touch ups. This vacuum fits the need very well. I have owned countless dust busters and have always been disappointed. There wasn't any other choices out there so I was stuck with it. Now I have a quality choice that actually sucks up what I point it at.
I read the other reviews and haven't ran out of power before I have finished the job. I don't plan on vacuuming the house. this is for quick clean ups of spills and accidents. I have my Dyson Animal to do the rest of the cleaning.
If you have kids, you have messes. You need this vacuum.

We've had two of these models, one for 4 years and another for 2 1/2. They have been great to pick up small areas, i.e. our son's highchair after eating crackers. Only now has one of the batteries begun to trouble us. A fifth star isn't awarded due to the cost of a replacement battery. But we wouldn't go back either.
