 "Third Rowents" 2010-03-15
By Ernest L. HIckman, Jr. (Florissant, MO United States)
I love my Rowenta despite the fact I know I'll replace it in three years (they don't last long). I love the weight, the burst of steam and how quickly it heats up. Love it worth the money.

 "dies after overheating" 2010-02-24

Worked well for a while (used once a week or less)

One fine day, it started overheating, burnt the dress, and died

Not good for an expensive iron

"FIRE HAZARD DO NOT BUY" 2010-02-23
By chief
I bought a Rowenta iron because they are supposed to be the best. Well after limited use the cord shorted out at the base of the iron and melted the strain relief. The ironing board caught fire and burned through!

I contacted Rowenta and they refused to refund my money. They said that if the iron was still under warranty they would replace the cord, but I had to mail the iron to an authorized service center!

The LAST thing I would want would be to continue to use the same defective iron with another cord on it, for fear of burning the house down.

This iron is a MAJOR FIRE HAZARD! The company has a horrible attitude and could care less about customer service or SAFETY.

I have reported the fire to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, and when they get enough complaints they should pull this iron off of the market.

DO NOT BUY A ROWENTA IRON. THEY ARE A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD IN MY EXPERIENCE!!!

Now I have to go and buy an new iron, plus a new ironing board cover, and they couldn't care less.

 "A waste of time and money$$" 2010-02-20
By Avid Seamstress (North Carolina)
I love a good iron, and I gave Rowenta three chances to live up to their publicized high standards. HA!! The last Rowenta I bought ran correctly for less then two weeks before malfunctioning and then completely quitting on me! The company's customer service does not exist--More like customer DISservice. Do yourself a favor and give up on Rowenta! Don't waste all that money on a CRAPPY iron.

"Great Functioning Iron, While it Lasted" 2010-02-20
By kingement (Wichita, KS USA)
I bought this iron in Nov '06 and it was defective out of the box. I sent it back with no hassels whatsoever (ordered a 2nd one, and got a refund on the 1st one). The 2nd one worked great. It produces profuse steam, at least when new. It does get 'scaled' with the tap water we have, but that is not the fault of the iron. You should use the cleaning function frequently (don't wait until it gets clogged). The instructions say not to use distilled water, but you can use filtered water, bought at the store. In my case it made a difference.

The problem I have is after 3 years use, it one day smelled of burning wires and then quit heating. My mom had an iron that worked throughout my childhood and into adulthood before I ended up getting her a new iron (after about 20 years use). Her old iron didn't ever quit, it just got really old. Things just aren't made like they used to be. They have many more "bells-and-whistles", but may not last as long, probably because of that. Since being out of Mom's house (18 years), this is my 4th iron.

Summary: This has been the absolute best functioning iron I've owned, albeit the most expensive one, but it did not last as long as I'd hoped. I would recommend it for someone willing to risk this much money for an excellent functioning iron, but it may be at a relatively high "annual" cost ($120/3 years = $40/year in my case).
