"Frustrating, headed for the dumpster" 2010-06-30
By Tiffany A. Bartoldus (anchorage, ak United States)
It leaks, it spots your silks and other delicate fabrics with water drops. The steam is unpredictable and you can stand there hoping it comes out for ten minutes at a time. Then, give up? Out it comes...all over everything. Skip this thing - it's a POS.

 "I'd rate a zero if I could" 2010-05-14
By Kimberly T.
My husband got this for me 8 months ago. I saw the poor reviews and hoped for the best. I liked the idea of it, and it was great on t-shirts and jeans. But it spits while its steams, it bubbles and leaks around the hose connection, it runs out of water quickly, and the time gap between steaming and resting grew longer and longer. It died on me this morning after 8 months of once a week use. I descaled it regularly, but ultimately it performed like all the bad amazon reviews of it. My friends all rave about other brands, so I'm going to poll them and read Amazon reviews to pick out my next one.

 "couldn't steam anything" 2010-02-14
By Angela D. Gibbons (Dallas,TX)
We tried to use it 3 times and could never get it to work. The first time we filled it to the max line and when we turned it on and the water started boiling it spewed out the top. We let it cool then emptied about half the water. The steam never came out continuously and we waited 6 minutes. It would start spitting water out then steam then it would quit. Third time same thing. This is a huge waste of money!!

 "Just doesn't work" 2009-10-25
By C. Miles (Central FL)
I just bought this steamer and am totally dissappointed in it. It just doesn't work. Not enough steam is generated to get out even the lightest of wrinkles in the four garments I tried. All those garmets were either 100% cotton or a cotton blend. All were tumble-dried in the clothes dryer and been on hangers in my closet.

For the amount of time it took to steam out 1 garment, I could have ironed 2 garments with my traditional iron. This steamer is NOT going to save you time or give you wrinkle-free clothes. I'm sorry I bought it. Hoping I can return it to the store and get a refund. Even at $59.99, it is a waste of money. Please save yourself the hassle and don't buy it.

 "STEAM AHEAD!" 2010-03-03
By D. Johnson (Chicago)
So far I love the Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam Generator iron (only had it three weeks). The iron heats quickly and offers wonderful, powerful steam! It fits into the slot of the Rowenta ironing board perfectly, so it is secure, the cord is not obtrusive, and I have lots of ironing board space. I don't iron a lot, but when I iron I want great heat control and lots of steam and this iron offers just that. The water tank is reasonably adequate and easy to refill; you don't have to wait and release pressure in order to refill the tank as I have had to do with some serious irons (although you do have to refill a bit more often). An earlier reviewer noted that the new plastic (?) steam button sticks occasionally and it does--but not often and it is easy to release. My only concern is the longevity: my other Rowenta models were not long-lived (usually died within two years--after the warranty expired.

Several months ago I purchased a recommended cordless Panasonic steam iron and was seriously disappointed. When I iron, it is usually cotton or wool and the Panasonic did not have the heat or the steam to meet the challenge and I had to keep putting the iron back on it's base for reheating--took too long to reheat.

"Great improvement, but no cigar" 2010-02-14
By Lisa Shank (Dowagiac, MI USA)
I do a lot of ironing with my custom window treatment business. I have been through many irons and have finally found one that works great in the steam department and that is the Rowenta DG5030; but not necessarily in the design department. It was tedious to fill the 33oz. reservoir and it doesn't show the water level. Until the DG8030 came out! Yes! the design I've been waiting for! So easy to fill and can see the water level. I would give this iron five stars except the steam "blast" doesn't seem to be quite as strong and last quite as long as the DG5030's. Perhaps it will come with more use - for each individual iron seems to have its own personality. Rowenta - if you could combine the steam pressure and duration of the 5030 with the view and fill-ease water tank of the 8030, add maybe an 8 ft. cord and you would have one spectacular iron. THEN the 8030 would be worth double the price of the 5030!

"FIRE HAZARD DO NOT BUY" 2010-02-23
By chief
I bought a Rowenta iron because they are supposed to be the best. Well after limited use the cord shorted out at the base of the iron and melted the strain relief. The ironing board caught fire and burned through!

I contacted Rowenta and they refused to refund my money. They said that if the iron was still under warranty they would replace the cord, but I had to mail the iron to an authorized service center!

The LAST thing I would want would be to continue to use the same defective iron with another cord on it, for fear of burning the house down.

This iron is a MAJOR FIRE HAZARD! The company has a horrible attitude and could care less about customer service or SAFETY.

I have reported the fire to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, and when they get enough complaints they should pull this iron off of the market.

DO NOT BUY A ROWENTA IRON. THEY ARE A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD IN MY EXPERIENCE!!!

Now I have to go and buy an new iron, plus a new ironing board cover, and they couldn't care less.

"Great Functioning Iron, While it Lasted" 2010-02-20
By kingement (Wichita, KS USA)
I bought this iron in Nov '06 and it was defective out of the box. I sent it back with no hassels whatsoever (ordered a 2nd one, and got a refund on the 1st one). The 2nd one worked great. It produces profuse steam, at least when new. It does get 'scaled' with the tap water we have, but that is not the fault of the iron. You should use the cleaning function frequently (don't wait until it gets clogged). The instructions say not to use distilled water, but you can use filtered water, bought at the store. In my case it made a difference.

The problem I have is after 3 years use, it one day smelled of burning wires and then quit heating. My mom had an iron that worked throughout my childhood and into adulthood before I ended up getting her a new iron (after about 20 years use). Her old iron didn't ever quit, it just got really old. Things just aren't made like they used to be. They have many more "bells-and-whistles", but may not last as long, probably because of that. Since being out of Mom's house (18 years), this is my 4th iron.

Summary: This has been the absolute best functioning iron I've owned, albeit the most expensive one, but it did not last as long as I'd hoped. I would recommend it for someone willing to risk this much money for an excellent functioning iron, but it may be at a relatively high "annual" cost ($120/3 years = $40/year in my case).

 "So far so Good" 2010-03-14
By Feltwerker (Chicago Illinois)
I am very happy with this product. It saves me a lot of time. On an occasional basis I will steam for an hour or so. I am steaming wool, so I love the light weight iron and I can use it for at least an hour without refilling.

It's a little bit cumbersome regarding refilling it when it's already hot (or maybe I should read the directions further), but I have no complaints.

I put the base on the floor and I have no water dripping ever.

I hope it lasts longer than some of the other reviewers have experienced. I will be very disappointed if it doesn't last more than two years.

 "Died at 23 months" 2010-03-11
By Jean Mangrum (Crabtree, Oregon)
Very disappointed with this iron. In April of 2008 I found this iron and thought I'd died and got to iron heaven. I loved how it steams. I paid $180 but last month it started steaming out from under the cap. Not just a little but so loud that I'm afraid it will blow the cap completely off. I wrote Rowenta and their solution was to buy a new iron! I couldn't believe what I was reading. So, this iron didn't last 2 years, cost a small fortune and you want me to buy another one?! Just know when you buy this iron it dies in a couple of years.

 "Rowenta DG5030 P.O.S." 2010-03-09
By T. Karlbom (ID)
I bought the DG5030 Pressure Steam Iron, because my mother gave it great reviews. I've owned it for 2-years now. I thought Rowenta was suppose to be THE HIGH QUALITY product, so I spent the $150 for it. Unfortunately, the thing is FALLING apart. The hand piece has separated from the bottom iron part. When looking inside, I can see that the plastic has corroded away and in the front section at the point there are 2 "rust" circles that have broken through and the plastic is brittle and breaking away. Another thing this thing does in when warming up, after being powered on, say 30-seconds or so the ENTIRE unit jumps up & give s LOUD BANG, that probably isn't normal either.

Today, 3/8/2010, I called Rowenta Customer Service and explained this issue. I was told the unit is beyond repair and she (Tricia) would be able to send me a $10-$20 rebate towards my next Rowenta, YEAH RIGHT! I explained that I want a better resolution than that. I requested to speak with a manager and was informed that the manager would call me later this evening. That hasn't happened yet. I'll be taking pictures as well. Also, I'm considering reporting Rowenta to the Better Business Bureau, not really sure if that will bring satisfactory results either. This is just frustrating to believe that I bought a product I thought was HIGH QUALITY and turns out to be a P.O.S.!!!!!

From reading the other not so positive reviews, it looks like I'm not going to receive a follow up from them or anything else. I will not be buying from this company again.

If anyone knows of a better pressure steam iron brand, please share.

Thanks!

 "For the price - I think it's a good buy" 2010-03-07
By R. Tichy (Kettering, OH)
I bought this iron to iron impossible to iron polyester uniforms. I really enjoy putting nice sleeve creases and pant creases into them, but found that with a traditional iron, I couldn't get it hot enough to produce enough steam or to get a good crease into it. I put several shine marks on the fabric.

With my new pressure iron and steamer (PIAS, yes I just made that up) I can do this a lot more easily. Now reading all the comments about this PIAS I knew it wasn't perfect, but I don't always believe the really negative reviews when there are a bunch of positive ones. I shelled out the money and got it myself.

Issues

1) This thing does leak. I'm using it on a low steam setting and low iron temp. Whenever I move the fabric, I've noticed that the steam must condense in the iron and cord and then spit out of the iron. I've only used it a few times, but I just push the steam "On demand" (is this cable TV?) button and shake the iron over the base with a paper towel down there. It seems to get the water out for the meantime.

Honestly, it does spew out a lot of water, but it doesn't bother me much with this. But I can see that this would be very annoying if it were something you didn't want to be soaked.

2) It does stink. I was prepared for this to happen. I got a Rowenta garment steamer for my wedding, and I used it once. It smelled like a dying skunk. Basically just heated plastic, and it was sick. This steamer smelled the same, but it seems to have gone away a bit after a few uses.

For the price, I'll deal with the spitting water, but wish that it didn't do it. If you are ironing things that can't afford to be re-wet, I wouldn't go with this. I mean, it's just water - it does dry. Due to the price, I gave it 4 stars, if it were more expensive with these issues, I would have rated it lower.

By Debbie Arriero (Charlotte, NC)
I purchased this iron just before Christmas, 2009; this is the best iron I have EVER used. I have never had an iron that put out the amount of steam this does. I hate ironing; my husband wanted me to shrink a bunch of his older dress shirts which were made of cotton, and didn't have much polyester in them. Some of them were incredibly wrinkled. After much steaming, with my new iron, these shirts looked like they had come pressed from a cleaners.

The only thing I would change, if anything, would be to have a slightly longer cord. Other than that, this iron is phenomenal, and I highly recommend it.
