I bought the Oreck sweeper mainly to pick up crumbs and dog hair from several kitchen rugs.
Its main advantages over a vacuum cleaner are
- lightweight
- doesn't suck up the corners of the rugs
- handle will lock upright so the sweeper can stand on its own
It has two main disadvantages:
- It's hard to empty! To do it easily, over a trashcan with no spillage, would take 3 hands.
- It does not pick up dog hair from a very smooth, low-nap carpet. It simply rolls the hair into clumps and transfers them to another spot on the rug. In other words, the rubber roller holds the dog hair only long enough to make a rotation, then applies it back to the rug instead of picking up more. I am constantly bending over to pick up these "dog bunnies" after every stroke with the Hoky, and when I check the rubber roller, it's empty.
I haven't tried to pick up anything wet with it. I have tried it on hardwood floors, where it works much better. What's picked up tends to stay in the sweeper rather than being pulled back out onto the floor.

This product works well on carpets and floors. The only reason I give it 3 stars is that the handle is a little flimsy and feels very flexible. Amazon delivered this quickly, actually quicker than they predicted.

This is a flimsy, cheaply made, sweeper that quite honestly should cost about $19.95. I suppose you're paying for the Oreck name. It doesn't perform well on tile flooring but does a good job on carpeting. It picks up dog hair really well on carpeting. Bottom line: It's grossly overpriced and I'm sure you could find something that works just as well for a lot less money.

I love this sweeper better than our vacuum...picks up more...even somewhat invisible dog hair. And its fun to use!

Purchased a Oreck 2600 Hoky from the Clean Up store. I love this product and it was delivered very promptly. Really like the rubber pick up blades, no more cat hair to clean out of the brush rollers on other products.
