 "design to fail" 2009-02-15
By William Zimmer
We have been using the Portor Cable vacuums for about 15 years as a drywall company. We started with the previous model 7810. The new 7812 is a vast improvement over the old one, excluding the bags. The old bags you could empty and reuse until they were wore out maybe 5 times. The glue to hold them together held well. The 7812 bags are glued with extremely weak glue. If you're not careful when installing them the flange will separate. The seam on the back of the bag often blows out while vacuuming. Even with extreme care dumping the bags is next to impossible without ruining the bag. I believe the new bags were engineered so you could not reuse them and they succeeded.

 "These work great" 2008-07-13
By Vincent Edwards (Bloomington, IN USA)
There isn't that much exciting stuff to say about vacuum bags, but these are well engineered and even have a nice little flap that seals the hole so dust doesn't escape after you take the bag out of the vacuum.

I highly recommend using bags with this vacuum as it allows you to suck up a lot more dust between emptying, and saves wear and tear on the HEPA filter.

These seem to last a long time and hold a lot of sawdust or drywall dust.

Price is right and they arrive in time but they seem to be ripping or coming apart at the seam very quickly. Bag will only be 1/4 filled and we have to change it.

 "Dust is my enemy." 2008-01-30
By AgedWireHead (Houston TX USA)
Dust has not always been my enemy, but I got tired of it and decided to do something about it. I really dislike sanding dust, especially from dry-wall mud. I tried various shop vacs, wearing them out while wondering if the noise was better than the dust. Porter Cable to the rescue.

I bought their first shop vacuum when it came out perhaps 15 years ago. It is still going strong, although I can no longer buy parts (or bags) for it. That old model had a few design faults, as the plastic attachment holders would last for only a day or so, but mine is still running strong, and the filter is still working.

However, I needed to get a new model so I could buy bags. The old model works pretty well without bags for wood sanding dust and cleaning the shop, but dry-wall dust needs bags.

Porter-Cable 7812 10 Gallon 1-1/2 Horsepower Tool-Start Wet/Dry Vacuum

So Amazon to the rescue, as they had a great price on the new models of the Porter Cable vacuums. And now I get to use bags again. I buy them six at a time, and use them for all the dry dust I am picking up, not just dry-wall mud. The nasty stuff is easy to dispose of without making a mess. And I can convert from dry to wet and back to dry quickly when needed. The filter stays clean far longer, and since I am not handling the filter as much, it lasts longer.

So get a Porter Cable shop vacuum and buy the bags. The vacuum is quieter than most, there are two sizes, it turns on with your sander, there are great Porter Cable sanders that work with it, the end of the hose can be quickly changed to fit the tool dust port, and the attachment holders now work and don't easily break. Oh, and it does what vacuums should: pick up dust and keep it in the vacuum, not spew it back out into the air. It shows when the bag or container is full. It must be pretty hard to crush the hose, as I have not been able to do it.

The Fein vacuums are a little quieter, but there are other trade-offs. It is still a great vacuum company. Here is a link: Fein 9-55-13 Turbo II 9-1/2 Gallon 1-1/3 Horsepower Wet/Dry Vacuum with Auto-Start). I also strongly recommend them.

 "Good filtration, but" 2007-09-23
By Biphers
Bags provide good filtration, but when in use the main seams often open leaving dirt and debris in the vacuum. So far every bag in use has done this. From now on I will reinforce the seam with staples and/or duct tape.

 "Mixed success" 2010-08-04
By Sharron Armel (Rochester NY USA)
I bought the Oreck sweeper mainly to pick up crumbs and dog hair from several kitchen rugs.

Its main advantages over a vacuum cleaner are

- lightweight

- doesn't suck up the corners of the rugs

- handle will lock upright so the sweeper can stand on its own

It has two main disadvantages:

- It's hard to empty! To do it easily, over a trashcan with no spillage, would take 3 hands.

- It does not pick up dog hair from a very smooth, low-nap carpet. It simply rolls the hair into clumps and transfers them to another spot on the rug. In other words, the rubber roller holds the dog hair only long enough to make a rotation, then applies it back to the rug instead of picking up more. I am constantly bending over to pick up these "dog bunnies" after every stroke with the Hoky, and when I check the rubber roller, it's empty.

I haven't tried to pick up anything wet with it. I have tried it on hardwood floors, where it works much better. What's picked up tends to stay in the sweeper rather than being pulled back out onto the floor.

 "works well" 2010-02-05

This product works well on carpets and floors. The only reason I give it 3 stars is that the handle is a little flimsy and feels very flexible. Amazon delivered this quickly, actually quicker than they predicted.

"Poor Quality for the Price." 2010-02-02
By K. Palmer (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
This is a flimsy, cheaply made, sweeper that quite honestly should cost about $19.95. I suppose you're paying for the Oreck name. It doesn't perform well on tile flooring but does a good job on carpeting. It picks up dog hair really well on carpeting. Bottom line: It's grossly overpriced and I'm sure you could find something that works just as well for a lot less money.

"Good for the small stuff" 2010-02-17
By Cherrychapstick
I have hardwood floors and the vacuum works pretty well. The mop part is a little weird to me. I feel like you have to put a lot of water down for it to suck anything up. Since I don't like putting a lot of water down, I haven't been using the wet vac part. Also, the pads underneath need to be clean before you use the wet vac. If they are slightly dirty from vacuuming previously you will just end up spreading dirt all over the place.

This came the day after I ordered it.

 "useless after 3 months" 2010-01-26
By Jeffrey Klein (Brooklynm New York)
I bought the Flip-Ease off of Amazon.com a little over 3 months ago. I was very happy with the product during the 1st month of use, when I use it once a week.

I was happy with its cleaver design of combining a mop and a vacuum. I was happy with how much dust it collected. I was happy with how easy it was to use. I was happy of how little space it took up in my apartment.

However after the 1st month the product began to have problems. The first thing that stopped working was the sprayer for the wet side and now the vacuumed will not hold a charge more then 5 minutes no matter how long I charge it. The product has become useless after only 3 months of use. I am very disappointed in Bissell. I thought up until now that they made only quality products.

There a missing part so I return it. Water leaking out from the bottom. Got a little disapointed then what I expected.

They send me another one when I asked for refund. Anyway I used it, it is not good like they said. The vaccum very weak, it barely can pick up dirt. I have to used strenth to mop and dirt will not stick to the fabric. Didn't like the product at all.

 "VERY functional !!!" 2009-09-14
By csj565 (Boston)
If you are buying something to save you hours of scrubbing because you have just moved into a new apartment to find the previous tenants forgot to mop the floors for a year OR you have procrastinated soooo long about mopping that you need a maid on steriods carting a commercial steam cleaner, then you will be majorly disappointed!! ON THE OTHER HAND - IF you start with a "semi" clean floor and plan to use this "semi" often to maintain said "semi" cleanliness, then this is for you.

Some of the reviewers seem disappointed due to seemingly unrealistic expectations but in my opinion, it's a great deal for the money... No operational problems, either: no leaks from the water storage; the water jets function fine; it holds a charge; it's durable; it's lightweight; the cleaning pads are machine washable and the vacuum sucks - just like it should !!

I would've rated this product 5 stars if a seriously buff Mr. Clean climbed out of the box and mopped my kitchen floor for me while I watched OR if they threw in a few more cleaning pads ;)- Good Luck!!!

 "Not for real work" 2010-04-11
By Fred (Bay Area)
With the long hose I could reach most everywhere in my garage. Lots of attachments. Great for cleaning the interior of cars and little things. Here is my problem with this thing:

Little wood chips/dust on the garage floor from woodworking clogs up the long hose. Hose diameter is too small for most anything from my shop. Suction to low and will not even pick up small nails.

I just remove the popcorn ceiling in the house and this will not pick up small bits of leftover popcorn bits without clogging up the hose. Ok on to sanding the drywall - the fine drywall powder will clog up the little pre-filter and filter in no time. The problem is the hose is too small in diameter, not enough suction and filter clogs up to quickly to do any half serious jobs. Ended up using my shop vac and the wife's canister vacuum cleaner to finish the job.

What a pain, every two minutes of vacuuming requires one minute of clearing the hose or cleaning the pre-filter and/or filter. Not for real work, had to manually push broom clean before I could use this thing to such up the remaining the dust and that even clogs the filter within a few minutes! This thing does look cool in the garage.

"Bissell VS Hoover Garage Vacuum" 2010-03-17
By HandyGuyWithTools (Milwaukee, WI United States)
Like all other purchases I agonized over which product to buy for months. A friend has the Hoover GUV and I liked it enough. My final decision was based on the fact I live in WI. My garage gets snow and ice over the winter. I had concerns the metal Hoover would eventually rust in my garage that remains damp for 5 months of the year.

I also liked the fact that you had the option to wet/dry vac. Even thought I don't plan on cleaning out my fish tank with the thing, I do vacuum wet floor mats and enough damp items that I liked the option being present.

I have owned the vac for about 8 months now. Still happy with my decision.

THIS IS NOT A HIGH POWERED SHOP VAC. It does great on cleaning out the car and sucking up general dirt in the garage, but... you will not be picking up a pile of leaves with it.

It is pleasingly quiet. If I could alter the "muffler" system for more power I would. It does have two screws on the muffler, but removing them does not allow the side discharge to easily be removed, and I don't want to break anything. I don't see why the gov needs to impose sound restrictions for my safety. I vacuum in the driveway, not with my head next to the vacuum...

The long hose goes everywhere I want to go. Suction is good, but not a 6HP shop vac with at 4" hose that is only 6 feet long. There is a trade off for space management.

In the end, its worth it for me to have this. I don't want to lug my shop vac up from the basement every time I want to clean out the car. I don't want a shop vac waisting space in my garage- so this fits the bill.

I would have given it a 5 star review; but can't based on the fact it doesn't suck up leaves that blow into my garage. The quality of construction seems to be good. Cleaning it out and the built in filter was easy enough, though a dirty job. The cloth filter gets pretty messy when you pull it out.

Would purchase again. If space is not an issue for you, consider a monster shop vacuum and be ready to pull it all over; If space is a concern and you like a tidy car and just want to pull down a hose and go- this is your vacuum.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. When he opened it up it wasn't all there. The wands for the attachements were missing and the only attachements in it were the large floor attachements. None of the car care or upholstery attachments were there. We called Bissell as the box says and they told us that as far as they are concerned it was all there when it left the factory and it wasn't their problem to contact Amazon. The box was still factory sealed!! All Amazon did was put a shipping label on it. We told them that and they still said that as far as they were concerned it wasn't their problem. Stay away from this product!!!!
