 "Pine Floors" 2010-06-10
By Mary-Ellen
I have grooved pine floors. The vacuum picks up fine on rugs, but doesn't pick up well from my grooves unless I use the hose. The hose is much easier to use than the one on my old Hoover. This one is two inches wider than my old one so it doesn't fit in my broom closet. I had to find it a home in another closed.

All over I am fairly happy with the vacuum.

"They Don't Make 'em Like They Used To!!" 2010-06-04
By C. Denison
Purchased this vacuum January 2009; have used it moderately-small house, 1 person. The self-propelled portion broke in less than a year and it wasn't something simple such as a belt. Supposedly it has a 3 year warranty; however, if you live in a small town or rural area, there will NOT be an "authorized" Hoover Repair Company anywhere near you. So you must find a way to ship the vacuum to the nearest "authorized" repair company and pay big dollars to ship it... it's not a pillow, it's heavy! I had one of these I purchased in 1993, it was sturdy and felt solid and was amazing for 15 years! This newer model barely made it one!

 "Love It" 2010-05-25
By E. Drezek (Laurel, Maryland United States)
I haven't a single complaint about the WindTunnel. Easy to put together, easy to use. It has a light plastic body, which makes it easy for me to move up and down stairs. The self-propelling makes light of vacuuming each room. The suction is much higher than my old one and the carpet almost looks new after using it. The Pet-Hair tool works great on my stairs and the furniture. A very good buy!

 "Really like it!" 2010-04-16
By C. Paden
I really like the UH50000. It is bagged, which is so much cleaner than bagless. The stores are obviously pushing the bagless vacs. Don't know why. I hear nothing but complaints about the bagless vacs and the mess they make. This vac's weight is not a problem. The self propelled works well and the handle isn't noticably jerky. It's suction is great. The cord coming out of the top keeps it out of the way easier. I like that the roller brush stops when it is upright so that the cord doesn't get chewed up. The attachments are easily accesable. I could have given this a 5 star rating, except for one thing. The vac was obvioulsy used by someone. It had some deep scrathes on it and some scuffs. The box had been opened previously. I don't appreciate being sold something in that kind of condition without being told. It has been running well and hopefully will continue to do so. I would prefer to deal directly with a store, since you never know what is coming from online, but I could not find this model in a store. There is almost no selection of self propelled vacs in the stores.

 "great vacuum cleaner" 2010-04-01
By Berlynn's mom
This is a great vacuum cleaner. I had been using a house-vac...and wow...what a difference! This is my 4th WindTunnel...and I swear by them. I use them in both my homes....and they really pick up the animal hair and sand, with 3 cats and a German Shepard...there is certainly an abundance of animal hair. You wont be disappointed with this vacuum.

"Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary Bagged Upright Nice Vacuum!" 2010-02-08
By Kathy S. Thomas (Gastonia, NC USA)
This vacuum cleaner is better than any Hoover product I have ever owned. It was super simple to assemble. The only problem I had with it: the belt broke within five minutes of first use. Figuring this was just a matter of a defective belt, I just went out and bought replacements. I didn't contact the company for a new one, which I am sure I would have gotten one if I had. I didn't want to wait; and they are not expensive at all, so I just bought a 2 pack of belts at my local Wal-Mart.

Replacing the belt was easy. Just remove four screws, take off the bottom plate, lift out the roller, and slip the new belt on. It does take a little strength to stretch the belt into place; but it is not extrememly hard. The vacuum has been working flawlessly since I put the belt on.

I like the dirt sensor on this model. Before, I had no idea if my carpet still had dirt in it after I vacuumed. With the dirt sensor, all I need to do is watch the green and red lights. When the green light stays on, the carpet is free of loose dirt particles.

I'm not sure I like the HEPA filters yet. I have never had to deal witht these before. I did tend to forget to clean the bottom filter in my old vacuum, which probably caused it to lose suction over the years. Since I need to wash the HEPA filter every time I change the bag, I will probably wash the bottom filter, also. Perhaps this will prolong the life of the vacuum.

I really like the full bag indicator on the vacuum. I have only used the vacuum four or five times since I got it. The bag is already showing full. I would have had no idea the bag could have filled up that fast without the indicator. Of course, with the HEPA bags, there is a tendancy for the pores in the bag to get clogged, so, although it does not feel full when it is checked, it still needs changing to prevent rupture of the bag.

This model has soft rubber wheels to prevent tire marks on your carpet. Almost leaves your carpet looking as if you never vacuum! :)

The push in, pull out hose is much easier to use than the one on my old model. On my old model, the hose had almost no suction until you bent over and slid the carpet height adjustment all the way to the right. Then the suction changed from floor to hose. With the WindTunnel, all you do is take the hose out and put the tools on you want to use. When you finish, just take the tools off, and put the hose back in. No bending necessary!

All the tools store on the vacuum cleaner either in the small tool compartment on top of the bag compartment, or on the back of the vacuum where you

i never write reviews but had to comment on this hoover. for the money it is an absoutely amazing machine. the suction is incredible and it pulls itself along almost if it were a self-propeled machine, which it isnt. the air smells clean as and after you vaccum meaning no dust is coming out of it unlike other machine. i read reviews that were critical of this machine because it wasnt good on bare floors - well duh - it isnt designed for bare floor cleaning! its meant for carpet and it does a phenomenal job! would highly recommend it if you are only cleaning carpet.

 "Flimsy hunk of junk" 2010-01-09
By woodwacker (Hunt Valley, MD)
The Hoover Anniversary Bagged Vacuum is a flimsy piece of junk. It is made of 85% plastic and all parts are as delicate as it is possible to make them. The moral of this story is if you buy cheap (Chinese) junk, you got cheap junk. After about ten uses in a small floor area, the left wheel broke completely off. This after the tool holders failed, the hose holder going into the intake broke, and the the handle release stopped working because it also broke. I suspect the Hoover waranty does not cover any of this. If they actually fix this breakage I will change this review.

For comparison purposes, we have two of the old Hoover Concept One vacuums made in the USA. These are built like a tank and are still running.

The only good thing about the newer vacuums is the air powered brush. Great for cat hair on upholstry.

 "Do Not Buy" 2010-01-09
By J. Storey
I received this for Christmas (I picked it out) and I'm very disappointed. The vacuum is so loud my ears ring after using it to vacuum my house. The suction on the hose is so strong it practically renders the hose unusable for reaching higher than your waist. I even bought the extended hose, same problem. I am so surprised by this as I had a Hoover many years ago and really loved it.

Also, the self-propelled mechanism is jerky. The only good thing I can say is the suction is very strong. Now if they could work on the other problems they might have a vacuum worth buying.

I suggest if you buy this vacuum, invest in a good pair of earplugs!

 "Wanted to like it..." 2009-12-18
By Russ (NJ USA)
Picked out this model after seeing a favorable Consumer Reports review, and the price was attractive compared to other options. However it was dead-on-arrival...it simply did not operate when the power switch was turned on. The power switch is a very flimsy plastic slider with some plastic linkage to the actual electrical switch, however this is all hidden within the chassis of the unit and not something you can fix without a lot of work. So I'll be returning this unit. It's just as well... I would not predict a long life for that switch even if it was working.

So I can't comment on how well the thing vacuums...but I'm not inclined to try a replacement unit. The hatch for the attachments seems pretty flimsy and prone to opening when you don't want it to. The attachments themselves are absolutely the cheapest plastic things Hoover could get away with.

"Purchase only to vacuum carpets." 2010-02-02
By R. Wolfe
This vacuum is not meant to be utilized for any surface area other than carpet. The machine did a fair job on the carpet, however, on bare floors of any type the dirt and other items (e.g. cat litter) on the floor simply shoot out the back of the machine due to the roller. The solution stated in the manual does nothing to prevent or solve this problem, I ended up having to sweep both the area I intended to vacuum and the area I had already vacuumed due to dirt that had been sprayed out the back. Unlike other machines meant for both carpet and bare floor use there is no way to turn the roller off with this model.

"Hoover Windtunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum" 2010-02-01
By Librariann
The product is okay, but not as good as Consumer Reports says it is. The exhaust air comes out of the front and blows the dust around that I am trying to capture. My Hoover arrived without one attachment and missing some screws. It was not packed well, so I suspect it had been someone else's return. I will not order any products of this type from Amazon again. Amazon should stick with books and movies.

 "Very therapeutic" 2010-01-31
By SaSR (Dallas, TX)
Great machine. Absolutely love the dirt sensor feature. I have always attempted to keep my floors as clean as possible, but with big, unruly dogs who continually bring the great outdoors indoors, it was a losing battle. It was surprising the amount of dirt that apparently remained embedding in the carpet after using my my prior vacuum. Previously, when steam cleaning the carpet, there would be a significant layer of dirt/mud at the bottom of the dirty water receptacle. Now, after using this great product, there is no more layer of dirt and mud at the bottom of the steam cleaner. Not especially happy with the performance on hard floors, but on carpeting it is spectacular.

 "Excellent vacuum" 2010-01-29
By Kevin M. Holmgren (Long Island, New York)
My wife and I have had an earlier version of this vacuum, the Hoover model U5753-900, for many years. Last week the switch went on it. My wife and I shopped around at some local stores and wanted to replace our vacuum with a similar model, maybe the next model up the line. We found the best price on Amazon and ordered this unit, model U5786-900. We are extremely pleased with the improved performance of this model. We always had great performance from the other Hoover as well, which is why we wanted to get another Hoover model to replace it. We have had other brand vacuums over the years (we are homeowners for over 33 years) and the Hoovers always outperform the others and last longest.

The particular features I like on this U5786 are the improved roller brush hairs, which are strong yet flexible, and the lightness of the vacuum overall. I was surprised to find it is almost self-propelled and very easy to push. It comes with three additional tools in the top compartment, including a mini roller head that is perfect for couches and other furniture. They advertise it as a Pet Hair Tool, and with our 12 year old Golden Retriever always finding a way to get to her favorite couch spot, this tool will get a lot of use.

Another great innovation over the U5753 that they put in the U5786 is a one-touch Bottom Empty Dirt Container. I really like the whole bagless vacuum concept, replacing the need to pull out and dispose of a filthy dusty vacuum bag all the time - when is it full, where are the replacement bags, hope I don't rip the replacement bag putting it in the vacuum, all that baloney. And I always would get hit with a cloud of dust in the face when I removed a full bag, and sometimes the darn bag would break - great fun let me tell you. So I was very glad that they came up with the bagless canister design. And the Hoover design is great, very efficient and easy to empty, clean, and reassemble. Anyway, now you don't even have to take the canister apart and knock off the dust on the filter and re-assemble everything and wash your hands - you press a button and the bottom pops open, and into the garbage can everything goes. Also, there is a crank on the top and a plastic bar inside that knocks all the dirt and dust off the filter for you - and into the garbage can. Clip the bottom back up and slip it back in, and away you go. I still wash my hands but I don't really need to with this design. The extension arms snap into the side of the vacuum, easily accessible. Also, a thinner extension arm fits into one of the regular extension arms for storage - good idea.Wind the cord onto the back of the unit and into the closet it goes. I think some higher-end models have a retractable cord, I would have liked that, but this one was in my price range.

This is really a well designed, well functioning vacuum that does the job superbly and lasts a long time and isn't a pain to deal with at all. And oh yeah, I broke out my screwdriver set, did a little digging into the U5753, and was able to remove the defective switch. Tested it with a Volt-Ohm meter and verified it was NG. I went to a local vacuum repair shop and got an identical replacement switch for the U5753 for $10, popped it in and it works like a charm. So now I have a backup / upstairs vacuum and a main vacuum, both of which I am very pleased with.

Can't go wrong with Hoover in my book.

 "loud non working sucker" 2010-01-29
By FB (Portland, OR)
sorry for a bad review. but it is amazing that hoover sells a product like this one. it's loud, does not perform well, is cheaply done and came scratched and already used or refurbished? not used since it's first use. i guess i should take it back to amazon but am afraid that it is too late for a return now (took it out of the box 3.5 months after purchasing it) not recommending this product at all. Have a hoover stick vac from the platinum lynx series (Li-Ion powered) Small and quick at hand, much better quality. Great for small quick jobs.

 "Works great" 2010-01-31
By M. Taylor (Charlotte, NC)
My Eureka broke (bearing on the brush roller went out) and rather than wait a week for a replacement part I picked up this vacuum.

It only takes two screws to install the handle and then it's ready to go. It works great, better than the one it replaced. I thought the "dirt finder" was just a gimmick but that seems to be pretty accurate. I have two dogs and a six year old and I vacuum almost every day. It's been almost a week since my vacuum broke and the Hoover cleaned up everything easily and with the HEPA bag, no sneezing. I'm no vacuum connoisseur, I push it, it picks everything up and I'm happy. So far, I am happy with my purchase.

The only thing is, I didn't purchase it from Amazon. I got it at S**'* Club for 69.91. For that price it is hard to beat. I did order my replacement belts and bags from Amazon though.

 "Not for hard floors" 2010-01-21
By E. Mcginnis (Austin TX)
I have a dog, 2 cats, small kids and mostly hardwoods and area rugs. I bought this vacuum based on Consumer Reports high rating for my needs. The self propelled function works great in the one room with wall to wall carpet, but on the tile and hard woods, the vacuum is careening out of control. It sounds like a screeching race car and then bumps hard into my furniture and molding along the walls. It already has numerous scratch and scuff marks and we just can't control it well. I switched from a 10 year old Oreck and was used to holding the baby while I vacuumed so she wouldn't be afraid of the noise. This one is so ridiculously loud, I think the neighbors can tell I'm vacuuming. The pet hair attachment works well, but the powerful suction sucks the short hose even shorter so you have to really use some muscle to get it to the couch. The suction is great on the vacuum in general. I also don't really appreciate the clean and dirty lights because the "dirty" light remains on even on a brand new area rug. Noise and steering are the biggest reasons that I would not recommend this vacuum and I'm buying a different one after only 6 months.

I expect a vacuum cleaner to be able to pick up bits of paper, and scattered kitty litter off a hardwood floor. I've reread the instructions many times and have not succeeded in getting this machine to work on hardwood floors.

It's very good on carpets, but I have area rugs and hardwood floors and need to be able to switch from one surface to the other. The hose is very short, and the suction isn't so good on that either. This vacuum cleaner just doesn't do a good job of cleaning.

It's very loud! Our very patient, wonderful downstairs neighbors actually called us when they first heard us use it because they couldn't figure out what could be making so much noise. This is the first time in 12 years that they've called us about making noise.

It arrived yesterday. Today, it went to the repair shop (25 miles away)for a warranty repair. The self-propulsion didn't work nor did the brushes on the bottom. It was heavy and noisy but that was expected. The repair shop said they get a lot of Hoovers.
