I've had lots of french presses, but this one is just great, having broken the glass container on my last one (again!) it was time for me to look for a new one, and how great is it!



All metal container and thermal on top of it!

The mesh looks like the standard Bodums, and the lid contains a plastic lip that can close the pouring orifice to keep the heat in (by twisting the cover till the arrow points to the exit)!

Ok the thermal part doesn't last forever, but personally if I don't drink it within 2 hours I make a new pot anyway.. freshness, that's why I got a French Press in the first place anyway!



I drink in those big cups of coffee at home, this size fits about 1 1/2 of the big (double-cups)style mugs, Perfect!

This little thing makes a delightful morning brew. Be aware, however, the "4 cup name" does not translate to "4 x 8oz (the actual measurement of one cup = 8 oz). So, I get one hefty mug of coffee from it. When serving more than one, it requires multiple brews. Had I known, I would have gotten the larger size. Nevertheless, it is very sleek in design, sturdy, and makes a nice cup of coffee.

This press is great! I just broke my Bodum Chambard, which is glass, after five years of use. I had the 32 oz., which was far larger than necessity dictated. Moreover, glass presses undergo considerable heat loss after four minutes of steeping. This press not only remedies that problem since it is double walled stainless steel, but you couldn't break it if you tried. The coffee tasted great, although I was a bit curious to see if steel would cause it to taste bad. Not in the least! It tasted fine and it keeps the coffee hot, so you are not forced to down a cup of coffee within a couple minutes for fear of tepid coffee. Once you try steel, you'll see the appeal!

Highly recommended. I already owned the 12 oz. pot and loved it. Got this slightly larger pot shipped to my daughter's home -- in the ready for our holiday visit. I quickly made my first pot but noticed an off taste in the coffee. I thought it must be her water as that was the only change from my own home --- beans, grinder, pot all the same. So, I washed everything again and made another pot. Still had the off taste. I could smell whatever was causing the off taste but didn't know what it was. Finally I identified it as coming from the the seal on the filter. So, I made sure the filter remained above the water line while the coffee was brewing. No off taste after that! There is a good reason you can find a SANTOS coffeemaker in nearly every Scandinavian home, this vacuum brewing system has been fascinating coffee lovers for over sixty years. Love the coffee, but it's better for making large pots than smaller ones. And the instructions are terrible. You've got to let the coffee brew in the upper chamber for three or four minutes before removing it from the heat.

This thing makes a good cup of coffee, looks neat, and is a conversation starter (is that your meth lab?) but it's also a lot of trouble and easily broken. My Santos lasted 3 weeks til the stem cracked and then broke when it tipped over on the counter. Plus the carafe is hard to clean and you have to get a heat diffuser or risk breaking the glass by thermal shock. So for me, for $70-80, it's not worth the hassle. I think this thing used to cost $40, which is feasible in my opinion. Now I use a Bodum french press which is much easier, quicker, less of a cleaning chore, and makes just as good of a cup.

Pros: This stove-top pot makes superior coffee, better than any drip coffee-maker I've ever had. It's also fun to watch. The quality of the brew is a big plus for me.



Cons: A less breakable version would be a big improvement. I gave 5 stars, but I thought about giving 4 because of this. I would pay extra for a version made of heavier glass or pyrex. It's not as convenient as an electric pot, although it's faster than a plug-in if you use a gas stove (more btus). I would like to see an electric plug-in version, for more convenient coffee brewing

Compared to my smaller and much older ABCO stovetop pot, this is thin glass (I had expected a thicker body), slow, not user friendly. The wire coil catch on the bottom tube tends to pop off. The handle is light weight. Using the same grind as for the other pot, this one tends to plug up and not flow through. The design is not efficient. The coffee flavor was okay.

I made my first pot of coffee yesterday and it worked just as outlined in the instructions. The biggest surprise was how good the coffee was. I drank 4 cups and I usually drink a cup a day. It was just so awesome. It is really easy to use and easy to clean up. You just have to be patient and be engaged brewing and using this device. There are several good places on the internet for showing you how to best use it. I read and learned first so I was prepared and ready to make and use this amazing coffee pot. I made my second pot today and it still turned out awesome. I can't wait to try it out at my next dinner party.
