The people that complain this product doesn't work, aren't following the directions. You are supposed to use one tablet EVERY single month. Not wait 2 years until your washer is beyond hope. We purchased our front load washer 25 days ago and run at least one load a day. I just used our first tablet because I was noticing a smell from the machine. The tablet worked great because the smell is gone. I will continue to use this product once a month to keep the washer smelling fresh.

I had better luck with bleach. I bought two packs of these and followed the instructions. The fist pack was used to run 3 cycles consecutively for a stinky washing machine. I did that and it seemed to work. About 2 days later the smell came back I used another tab the smell went away for about 2 days again. Anyway to make a long, pathetic story a little shorter I ran through all of the tabs and still have a stinky washer. Bleach gives me the same results and is much cheaper. I like the Borax idea I'm going to try that and see if that helps. Don't waste your money on affresh.

Affresh is a pleasant product, but it might not do what you hope.
I noticed a damp basement / old person smell in our front loading clothes washer. Affresh sounded like a great product to take that lovely smell away. The instructions are pretty simple, toss one tablet in an empty washer, and run a normal cycle with hot water setting. If the smell isn't gone, or the washer is has mold or mildew, repeat two more times.
The results are mixed. The first tablet made the washer smell a bit better, but those old folks were still in there. Since I had my head in the washer smelling around, I decided to study the rubber door seal. Oh, I found the culprit, a big beautiful old colony of black mold growing on the seal.
So a toothbrush, some other chemicals, and another tablet later; the old folks were mostly evicted. I'm guessing that third tablet might lower the smell level a bit. However, I've decided to call in the professionals, or some DIY, and replace the door seal. Until you remove those old black mold / mildew folks, their smell will remain.
I think this is a good product. The tablets do smell very nice - a subtle clean odor, not perfumy. If your washer has a mold build up in a door seal, then it will likely not fix that problem. The old folks will not move out to the retirement community because of these tablets.

I have had a problem with my HE washer and a horrible odor coming from it for awhile. I have tried everything possible to get rid of it. I saw this on Amazon and thought, will give it try, it may work and it may not.
Well, first time I had to run my clothes washer through twice each time using one of the tablets and it smelled amazing after the second time. Three hours afterwards it still smelled clean. Two days later, it still smells wonderful. I highly recommend this product if you are having that persistant odor in your HE washer.

This product was recommended by our washer/dryer repair rep due to assist in the moldy/milder odor from our washer. I have a top loader that is only a few years old and after attempting to clean the interior my clothes still had a faint smell of mold/mildew. I probably would have never realized this if I didn't have to switch to fragrance free detergents due to allergies in my household. I tried Affresh and more than one occasion and it did seem to help refresh the wash for a cycle or two, but didn't assist in cleaning the interior. I now attempt to clean the interior after each use with a rag and clothes detergent to help minimize the mold/mildew and odor and I am debating on purchasing another washer.
