We've only had this unit for a few days, but are quite happy with it. We have replaced a 10-year-old unit which my wife loved. But this B&D is lighter, quieter, and seems to work better than the old one; it has plenty of suction for the jobs we've reserved for a hand-held like this. Because its nose is smaller, it is easier to get into normal spaces, and the slide-out 'snout' makes tight spaces a snap.



Opening it to empty the cup also seems quite smooth.



I am particularly pleased: When she decided to tackle a spill right behind me as I am reading the paper, the unit doesn't sound like an MD-80 in distress.

Works well - no problems. The long cord is great for my Honda Odyssey and the whole thing stows in the under-floor compartment just fine. Suction is perfectly acceptable and passed my test: sucking up a Cheerio-covered floor or car seat.



My one suggestion would be that it would be nice to have a battery (even with just 5 min. of runtime) for quick cleanups while the vehicle is in motion.

Considering that this is a pretty inexpensive dustbuster, it's not bad. It does blow air out the back when running, which is a little strange because the air blows in your face. And I wouldn't say it's super powerful. But overall it does the job, and sure beats cleaning up my 16 month-old son's messes by hand. :-)

I had this vacuum for a year of frustration and annoyance. It does not work well at all. I finally brought myself to throw it away. I agree with the other review that it is a dustblower, I experienced getting stuff in my eyes as well. Did manufacturers use to make decent products for reasonable prices or am I just getting old?

I've owned several B&D DustBuster's in my life including the original from the early 80's. Since that time, overall design, battery performance, and suction has improved -- for the most part. They still all eventually die and therefore require replacement every few years.



Having great success with our impressively powerful 9.6V Dustbuster (model CHV9600, purchased in 2006), we picked up this 7.2V (model CHV7202) for the laundry room since it claims to be a wet/dry vac and I figured 7.2V would be close in performance to the 9.6V.



Boy was I wrong!



From Day One, the suction on this model was so poor, it couldn't even pick up tiny bits of dryer lint on the floor! Our 9.6V model could handle anything you could throw at (as long as the items fit through the opening). But this one? Not even close. To make matters worse, I mounted the charging unit on the wall only to find out that it's quite a challenge to actually "dock" the vac for charging due to it's poor design, so we almost never dock it. In fact, we now bring the 9.6V model upstairs to tackle the tasks that this one failed to do.



In short: I'm not sure who greenlighted this model over at B&D, but they should have been fired. Avoid this one at all costs and get the current 9.6V model (or above). We wanted to return ours, but we made this mistake of tossing out the box.

Had it for about a year. Never held much of a charge. Eventually the wall adapter split and swelled up. Replacement costs about as much as a new dustbuster.

Eventually, soldered in an old adapter I had. Still doesn't hold much of a charge.

This is advertised as fitting "ALL" CHV cordless cyclonic hand vacs, and it even says so on the Black & Decker box. I bought this along with a CHV 1688 dust buster cordless. THIS FILTER DOES NOT FIT - it's too big. The proper hepa filter for a CHV 1688 is a VF08H, which Amazon does not carry.

I bought this to clean up dog hair on furniture. (My dog is an Aussie/Golden mix with lots of long hair.) I used it on my couch, but I had to go back over it with the hand tools on my bulky upright to get rid of all the dog hair. Maybe it works better for short-haired pets. As for general use (other than dog hair), my cordless dustbuster works just as well as this one, without the hassle of a cord.

I love this product for the use of vacuuming cat litter around the cat box and vicinity and small vacuuming jobs that do not require the use of the regular vaccum cleaner but I am finding that after a year I have bought about 4 of these because every 3-4 months the thing dies! I guess I didn't read correctly when I was at Walmart and bought this thing. I didn't read that it is NOT cordless. When I got home I pluggged it in and immediately noticed it is very loud and probably powerful. When I realized the cord didn't come out, I decided that I would be taking it back. I'm not into the whole old fashioned thing. The only corded vacuum I want or need are my beloved Dyson's. I'm going to get another Black and Decker CORDLESS.

It has a powerful motor with high suction. Unfortunately the position of such a motor in a light, handheld device creates a tremendous gyroscopic effect. The thing always wants to move in a different direction than you want it to. It's like the thing is alive and fighting you. Extraordinarily irritating and inconvenient. Definitely NOT recommended. I am sending mine back.
